2017 Trans ?

There is a poll on likes and dislikes of the 8 speed. It sounds like they can shift smoothly, so if mine was clunking or gave me a feeling of being rear-ended, I would pursue all avenues to get it fixed while it is under warranty. Some of the issues expressed about the 6 or 8 speeds on this forum makes me wonder if there isn't a large enough group of people to push for the return of a manual transmission. A manual transmission is a sure way to get the gear you want, exactly when you want and the smoothness is up to you!

In my opinion, if you can't make a trans function correctly then you have no business building cars. I'd never build/fab something for someone and tell them "too bad" when it didn't do it's basic function.

My trans was replaced already due to the delayed engagement. Less than 10k miles (well really it started just a few days after the replacement) later it's doing it again way worse than the first time. It's now doing a crazy harsh DOUBLE clunk upon shifting into drive from park or reverse. It used to only be a single harsh clunk. It's going back because now they dealership can't possibly tell me this is normal when they replaced the trans once already due to delayed engagement and it's doing it worse now.

It certainly sounds like you've had some rotten luck! I haven't owned an 8 spd yet but I've been fortunate with my gm 6 and 4 spd automatic trucks. I got much more satisfaction from their previous manual floor-shifts but have never experienced transmission problems with GM or Ford. I hope you have better luck with your next repair and not get discouraged.

I'm starting to get the feeling it all comes down to the individual trans stored memory that's learned at the factory. My trucks battery was dead and truck sat on the lot for 6 months before I bought it. Trans has never been right ever period. The is a lengthy relean procedure that involves tcm learning all clutch variables and pressures. There is a T.S.B. for this. It has a straight time op code which tells me it can take a hour or a day to complete. Most techs I'm sure don't know about it or flat out don't want to do it cause it's a pain in the ass and by me at least the streets wouldn't permit that kind of driving due to hills and traffic. BUT it can be done. Good luck getting you dealer to do it. I would drive my truck to the country side and spend the day doing it myself but truck had to be placed in a learn mode with tech 2. So I'm going lemon law. All over what I believe to be a dead battery.
