Gas mileage change/no "get up"

Recommended Posts

I have a 2015 Silverado 2500hd gas, 6.0

My truck has 30,000 miles. I have always gotten 16-18 mpg on the highway (70mph). The last week, I can't get above 9mpg on the highway (70mph), even going downhill. Also, may be my imagination, it seems that I have lost some power. The truck feels like I am pulling a trailer or have a heavy load in the back. Any ideas?

The first thing that comes to mind and doesn't cost much would be a new air filter. I could be wrong though, but just a thought.

Also add, is all the normal maintenance up to date. Fuel filter, plugs. See if any codes have been thrown. And last, maybe bad gas? Did this start just after a fill up?

There is a fuel filter in the gas tank. It's part of the fuel sending unit. I doubt it would be the air filter. You'd be setting MAF sensor codes by the time a filter became plugged enough to cause issues with engine performance.

Sounds like you got a bad tank of fuel. Run it down and then fill up with some good fresh fuel from a top tier station (if you don't already fill up there. Even they can get a bad delivery of fuel from the terminal, or something washes down into the underground tanks at the gas station) and maybe add a can of BG44k to it as well, I really like the stuff. I use it twice a year. Not only does my repair facility use it, but so does my dealer service department, made me smile when I saw a service advisor recommending it as well as a professional fuel system cleaning to a customer who had brought her 15 year old Saturn in for performance issues.

Was this problem ever fixed? I've got the same issue. I've seen a few other people do too and no one has posted if they got it fixed. I'm gonna go to the dealer and have a backpressure test done. Don't know what else to do.

So I have a question don’t get on me for being dumb just want other opinions.

I have a ls2 swapped rado bought the truck on a deal only problem was I couldn’t drive it for more than 20-30mins without getting trans hot on the dash and would go into limp mode but if you cut the engine off for a minute or two and cut it back on message went away for another 20-30mins but the actual trans temps never hit about 180

this is where it all starts.
anyway 1blown torque converter later and a trans rebuild my transmission guy told me the genius put a 2500 ecu in just to get the truck to fire up with a slight tune that pulled like a F****** freight train back to the point he tells me the truck thinks is has a 4l80 in it witch It doesn’t I have a 4l60 he said I needed to take it to a tuner shop asap so I don’t blow my trans or torque converter again because there’s a lot of major differences mainly being gear rations and shift points

witch I thought a tune would fix anyway but I wasn’t for sure so I got the truck tuned by Powerfab autosports and they reflashed the ecu programmed it and did a dyno tune

when I pick up the truck the dude shows me the power chart and the truck made 280hp 360tq

witch I think is way ****ing off but I am not a master mechanic I know a lot about vehicle but not enough to be firm on saying that’s bullshit

Why I needs y’all’s insight is because when the truck was ****ed up and giving trans hot display on dash the ****** was a ****** Ton faster and pulled a boat load harder the ass would squat the truck would drop a gear and scream so beautifully she would literally throw me back in my seat and keep in mind this is with 305/35/24s  now it’s just feels like I have a slightly beefed up 4.8

engine mods are air intake long tube headers full exhaust trans cooler and that’s pretty much it as far as I’m aware

does anyone know or have any insight as to what is going on and why I am making such low numbers or where the **** my power went??

and I would appreciate no assholes just need some info thanks!

I recently purchased a 2013 Silverado 1500 LTZ 5.3 crew cab and am averaging 13.6mpg. I understand it's a truck, but I figured it wouldnt be that terrible. I use cruise control and coast as much as possible, but still have the poor mileage. It has 117,000 miles on it. I have 33x12R20LT Trac Grip M/T Thunderer tires and XD series wheels. I feel like I should be getting better gas mileage than this. Suggestions?

I am looking to add an elevated idle feature to my 2018 Chevy sliverado 3500 duramax Dually. My truck is currently not set up with the pto feature. I currently idle my truck for about an hour a day and I am wanting to add an elevated idle to get my truck to operating temp faster to prolong the life of my truck. What are y’all adding to the truck for aftermarket parts to achieve this since the dealer is saying it’s not possible with gm parts. What else are y’all running for tuners to increase mpg that will work great with a fully deleted truck.
