Traded in the Silverado

Well guys I gave up on the fight to try and fix the problems I had with the truck. Traded it in for a Nissan Frontier 4x4. Got a good deal on it and was given a lot for my truck.

List of problems with the Silverado:

-Shaking and jumping at highway speeds

-Vibration under both seats and center console at 75-82 mph

-Climate control issues

-Squeaking exhaust

-Gear noise at 80mph

Loved the truck but the issues were driving me nuts and I just don't have the time to keep taking it to the dealership.

Wanted to thank everyone who helped me out with questions. These forums are great.

The squeaking exhaust is the flapper valve. They all do it. My cat-back exhaust with no flapper fixed that and then some. Gear noise at 80 is disconcerting for sure. Just a question, why not the Titan? I am truly surprised this many years into the platform still seeing issues. I don't blame you one bit man... We work hard for our money.

Good luck with the new truck. Nissan has seen a sales resurgence with the Frontier, probably because the new midsize are pretty expensive.

Love the Titans, but two reasons. I don't like buying a car when it just had a major redesign, and it was too expensive for me.

I had a 2005 Silverado and that thing was solid! Thought after a few years of GM having the same design, they would have the quirks mostly figured out, especially since the shaking issue has been around since the 14's. I was wrong.

Where in the USA is speed limit at 80 MPH, Nevada? Here I've never driven over 110 Kms ( ≈68MPH )

I just watched offroad.com's 2016 mid size truck video. I've driven a Canyon as a loaner from my GMC dealer for a week when they did the oil leak repair last year on my truck. Good truck but inside was cramped feeling and visibility sucked. The upward sloped belt line and high bed line killed that truck for me. I custom ordered a TRD offroad Tacoma back in 2009. I've been saying this since I dumped my '09 TRD Taco in '10... the mid size market for trucks stinks. It's better today but it still stinks IMO. I would pick the Nissan myself also out of the mid size market today. Best bang for the buck and no issues with a redesign. Those trucks are $35k-43k. The all new Tacoma gets 20 combined, up from 17. Guess what I got with my '09? 17.5 combined in Tampa driving, 20 on the hwy at 70mph with the cruise on flat hwy and only me inside. It was dismal. Then I took it off-road, the frame was c-channel and flexed like Elvis. Felt like a tin soup can overall, I hated my '09 TRD Taco and that's coming from a huge 1980's and 1990's Toyota Supra and 4runner fan. My full size 5.3L GM truck gets 17.5-18mpg combined in Tampa and 21-22 hwy at 75-78mph with all my mods and 10 ply Ko2's and no chin spoiler. Much larger interior, better safety and A LOT more capability. All for the same or less price. I tend to see more factory cash incentives on the full size trucks than the mid size trucks... it just makes no sense from a business perspective, you can get a full size truck cheaper if you time it. But a Frontier Pro4x is going to be fun as heck offroad for sure. I like your frontier choice out of the midsize options.

Texas and Utah has 80mph there is actually an area in Texas that's posted 85.... (Does Montana still have a no speed limit in the day time)?

Most of the state's west of the Mississippi are 75mph, which means it's common to see the "flow" of traffic close to 80mph.

Heck even in my state that used to be posted at 65 a few years ago and is now posted 70, it's very common to see people almost getting run over at 75, because there are so many people doing 80 regulary (Even when it was 65)

I agree 100% with everything you said. My option was going to an F150, no thanks, other option was ram, no thanks, tundra, too expensive for what they are. Going back to another Silverado, no way. I got my frontier for almost the same price as a BASIC Tacoma with not even cruise control in it. MPG isn't a huge deal to me. My job is only a mile away from home. I only go to CA once every few months. The only thing to get used to is the smaller size. I like big size trucks, but I'm a small dude, only 5'5" so i fit in the frontier perfect. I also like the fact that it's a design that's been around for years and proven. Love that it has no AFM and all the other tech stuff that can go wrong. Basic truck for a basic man. I just wanted the 4x4 feature. That was a must this time.

My 2015 4-cylinder Colorado got around 25+ mpg in central FL. Only reason I got a Silverado was because it's way easier to find one optioned how you'd like after the Colorado was totaled, and I'm pretty picky about colors and options (funny because I like base models). I really like the Desert Runner frontiers, almost bought one (basically a pro4x but only 4x2); you can probably get one for no more than 20k. One comment I'd like to make though is that it's more than possible to get a midsize for under 20k. Plenty of WT Colorados/Canyons and base Frontiers in the 18k range on Autotrader. A Tacoma is maybe 22k (I don't like Toyotas or Honda's because of how overpriced they are).

In Florida most interstates are 70, but people drive 80+. Must be a southern thing, but I've never heard of roads where the average flow of traffic wasn't 5-10mph over the posted limit. Never known anyone pulled over for doing less than 15 over. There used to be a small town in Florida named Lawtey that lost its incorporation priveliges because it was such a bad speed trap pulling over northern plates back when vacationing in FL first became a thing.

That being said, since moving to northern NY I've done maybe 45 on the interstate multiple times. Haven't been honked at when passed; I feel the SC plates on my truck help people understand lol.

Re-read your first post, if you didn't drive so fast your truck wouldn't shake and you would still be the proud owner of a full size Chevy. These aren't race cars they're trucks.

So GM doesn't test or develop Silverado's or Sierra's to go over 75 MPH, test speeds limited to 75 mph per GM engineers unless its a Corvette or Camaro?

Yeah.......
