Speed radar

I'm using the max 360 which still falses more than it should. Keep an eye out for the uniden r3... it's been tested and beats the redline in performance and has great bsm filtering.

Escort just can't get the BSM filtering right. BTW, the Redline has been discontinued. Good back before BSM but Escort has given up on making the Redline preform at the top of the game.

The Uniden R3 is showing some great potential but I have not tested one personally yet.

A properly mounted V1 rules the day against BSM. Very rarely will you get a K break through but mounted wrong will draw occasional lidar BSM false alert.

There are a few prototypes out there that nearly eliminate all false alerts but they might not be in the affordable price range for people that don't mind ponying up 6 grand for protection. Due to NDAs, I can't say anything other than they exist and they are awesome.

The Redline has been discontinued but it was a great detector for sheer distance. BSM wasn't a real factor when it came out. I'd imagine Escort is going to be replacing it with something similar to the R3... simply cause they'll have to to keep their lunch from getting eaten by Uniden.

V1 was great in the day but honestly, too much config to keep it silent... even with the latest "junk K fighter" firmware version. I had to run mine with custom sweeps and just got tired of dealing with it.

If I'm driving cross-country I still use the Redline (since I don't have and R3... lol) and it's extremely valuable especially at night. The tech in cars has definitely made a lot of detectors more annoying for sure and Waze definitely is a great option. End of the day, everyone has their preferences and what works for them.

Hell, I live in Dallas so I would probably better to invest in a dash cam considering traffic sucks and you're more likely to be hit by someone running a red light or them going the wrong way.

Apologies for totally jacking this thread from the initial post.

I configured my 2018 specifically without radar for two reasons:

I added front tow hooks.

I use a RD.

PS Oh, and smart CC is dumb (slow) and I actually watch for cars in front of me... ; )

I disagree that the V1 with junk filter is useless. It is sensitive and not specific. So you tune it out when you need to (most k band, but not all). You need to be the junk filter because you are smarter than a 500$ piece of kit.

Radar detectors aren't completely useless yet...

VASCAR is aerial... time from distance to distance usually captured by a trooper spotting via helicopter or airplane. So detectors are simply irrelevant in this case.

Radar detectors are useless to laser (LIDAR) since as soon as you receive the warning they have your speed... assuming you're the target. Since the beam is so focused there isn't scatter like with radar patterns. You need jammers for laser.

I use the radar detector for situational awareness and depending on detector, red light camera notification.

End of the day radar detector mfgrs are battling the built in safety systems in newer cars this making detectors "cry wolf".

Sir you are wrong about VASCAR. It is not aerial alone. You are think about stop watches that some states use. I used VASCAR (Visual Average Speed Computer and Recorder)  as a State Trooper in Fl. It works off your speedometer  which has a part inline to sink to the unit inside the vehicle.   You have to calibrate it before each shift by driving through a measured 1/4 mile. There are 5 different mode it can be used in. I also used Laser. The best advice I can give is to have your speedometer checked and don't speed.

OK, so you are saying, if I get you correctly, that you timed people by driving along with them and timing them by comparing your speed to theirs? No laser, no radar. Correct?

Your best advice is excellent advice. But I tend to drive pretty fast and haven't had a ticket in over ten years. Knock on wood. I've used my eyes and RD to beat radar and laser, simply countless times.

My motto for those who like to drive fast is hurry don't rush. And if you can see a car, it is a cop timing you until you are sure otherwise. A RD helps you some, but your eyes do most of it. It is very helpful to know if in the region you are in they wait in traps or just drive around. RD's work way better when you can use blockers in front of you. No one can escape an off road trap that times just them.

Obviously, you need to decide how much it means to you to make time: 50 miles or less, no need to speed, all day trips, everything counts. Joy rides, every second counts, and doesn't!

Speeding is not the same as free speech or (I guess) gun rights. But there are many parts of the western world that have lost the freedom to speed safely (safe for others) due to surveillance. In populated areas, this is reasonable. But on the vast empty stretches of our great country, When no one but me is at risk, I don't see the crime.

Easy chief... was just using aerial as an example since that's what I was most used to. Clearly "visual" can be various methods cruiser, motorcycle, etc.

Case in point, don't want a ticket... don't speed. I absolutely agree.

I used to be quite frustrating back in the double nickel days. The speeds seem reasonable these days. I use to calculate on trips how much quicker I would arrive at may destination by miles speeding, and concluded the time gained wasn’t worth the stress.
