I did it to my Envoy Again

Recommended Posts

Well, after trying to decide on which intake kit to purchase I chose the K and N Air Charger Kit. I got a good deal so I went for it. I was a little concerned because it is "For Offroad Use Only" but after studying the Volant kit, which is 50 state smog legal, and the K and N kit, they look the same to me. K and N is just waiting for CARB approval from EPA. But they did tell me that if EPA requires just one change to this setup, the FIPKII will be different than the Air Charger Kit.

I took the stock setup apart, and both the Volant and K and N reattach the Air Temp Sensor and Two Vacuum Lines. There are no other Emissions Control Hookups or sensors. I also thought the Volant looked too much like the stock setup with the closed in Air Box and opening in the front. The stock box has a similar setup, except the little horn the feeds air to the air box is quite small.

I have had good results with K and N in the past, and decided to stick with them. Not to mention I already have 2 filter charger kits, and Volant charges extra for a recharge kit, that is stupid. Oh well. Once I get it in, I may try to run some sort of cold air ram, like people have been designing for their pickups. I have pretty much a straight shot from where the filter is straight to the ground.

So I will let you know how this setup complements the Borla exhaust.

Stay tuned................. :jester:

Thanks Greyghost. Once I get it installed I will see what I can come up with. What did you use for the screen on the ram? I was thinking if I do it, I might get one of those K and N pre-filters and put that on the end of the Ram Air.

I thought of that too, at first. I was talking to the guy at a local speed shop to order a pre-filter wrap and he said "why don't you just use some pantyhose? It would do the same thing."

So I went shopping for some pantyhose (I know :D:thumbs::cool: ) and and man, did I get some funny looks in Rite Aid!! :jester: I saw something that would work better. What I used is actually a black microfiber sock. It's a little thicker than the pantyhose. I threw the extra 1 in the glovebox so when the 1 on the tube gets too dirty I can just change it out. :fume:

Man embarrased about shopping for pantyhose.....hasn't your woman ever sent you out for tampons?? Or am I just being to nice???

Yea, you're right. I bet I would have blown them away if I walked up to the counter, pantyhose in hand, and said "Excuse me, do you have a dressing room?" :smash:
