Backup camera monitor at night.

I have noticed the reflection off the rear window in my Regular Cab also, having the tint on the back magnifies the situation.

Also - at night I see the Blue (cooled seats / other options) light reflect off my cab rear bed window that fools me to think there's a cop way back with his Blue Lights on ...

Guys, I can relate as mine (2017 Silv 2500HD DA) does the same thing (as expected). I had the truck in for service and talked to my advisor about it. he had never heard of it but he did talk to the GM TAC and they told him that they were aware of the issue and were working on a fix to be applied during an upcoming software update... so stay tuned I guess?

What I've noticed is that the camera turns on when in reverse, but stays on for a few seconds once in drive. And as soon as I shift into N and then D, it dims. Dims to a much more suitable brightness, might I add.

This is what I've noticed also. Seems like it may be an aggressive auto brightness setting for the camera that when the reverse lights come on it over compensates for the additional light. Once you take it out of reverse, the extra light is gone, the display dims and is at a reasonable brightness for the second or two before the display goes back to whatever it was on before. It got me wondering if we could add "blinders" of some sort to block some of the light from getting to the camera lens? Or maybe a light layer of tint for the camera lens?

I hadn't really considered that, but it'd be an interesting experiment.

I noticed this the other night initially backing out of the driveway. That display can get BRIGHT

I also noticed when it does that it is so blown out I can't really see anything on it, and odd wavy vertical lines appear on the screen. I've just been rolling down the windows and using the side mirrors. Same situation though, once you drop back into drive, the vertical lines go away and it immediately dims back to normal. I am going in for a transmission update soon, since mine has been acting like a lethargic fat kid trying to climb a flight of stairs from a dead stop, I'll see what other updates they have for the systems.

Late to the party, but has anyone tried turning the display off? (settings, display, turn display off)

When done, pressing the screen anywhere should turn it back on.

From personalization section of 2017 manual:
Display
Select and the following may display:
. Calibrate Touchscreen
. Turn Display Off
Calibrate Touchscreen
Select to calibrate the touchscreen, then follow the prompts.
Turn Display Off
Select to turn the display off.
Press anywhere on the display area or any faceplate button to turn the display on.

So I finally had an opportunity to try the tint experiment this weekend. I recently had my front windows tinted and the tint shop was nice enough to give me a scrap of the tint to try this with. Long story short, it didn't do anything. It obviously tinted everything through the camera, but it did nothing for the brightness aspect. It has to be a programming thing when going into reverse only at night. Hopefully GM will fix this and issue an update for it (haha), it is very annoying!

Over on duramax forum they say there is an update that makes the camera screen better at night. Guess I'll take mine in die first oil change and get it done. Can't use the dimmer control but they say it's an amicable fix.

Actually it's already been discussed on these forums:

Trying to back up at night is a horrendous experience with the screen lit up that bright. You can't use your mirrors at all because of the glare.

Not to mention that the red brake lights in my tow mirrors are totally blinding at night .. . other car companies have the mirror brake light blocked from the drivers line of sight ... (on the outside edge vs in the glass)

Totally a POOR design !

do the engineers ever drive the products they design ? Geez

come on GM - this is basic screw up on your part

(I'm still not happy with the steering column not lined up with the center of the drivers seat ! ) like it's leaving room for someone to sit in the front seat middle section (WHERE THE GIANT CONSOLE IS) - DUH

How is it that my 2011 SLT nav / back up display worked better than my 2015 ?

Seems we are dealing with idiots !
