Hey everyone! I have questions about my new truck, hope this helps

Hello, Two weeks ago I bought a Silverado 2500hd with the Duramax/Allison combo and the LTZ package. This is my first diesel 2500hd truck, all of my other trucks have all been 1500's.

I bought the truck because I want to eventually get a large camper and I want to have a truck that will have no problem with towing large campers, and hopefully last a long time.

I shopped around and decided to go with the Chevy Duramax because I like the new engine and the heavy duty Allison transmission.

On the test drives I went on, the salesman never took me out on a road that allowed me to exceed 30mph, and I thought the truck was great! So I bought it.

Well, the ride home on the interstate made me sick! Shaking and bouncing the whole damn time. I turned around and went back to the dealership and told them how bad the ride was, and they rebalanced the wheels, but that did not make a difference.

I went home and researched Chevy trucks shaking and my heart almost stopped! I had no idea about the whole "Chevy shake" issue.

I went back to the dealer the next day and complained about the truck and that really got me nowhere. The truck has 304 miles on it now and they are telling me to put at least 500 miles on it and the stiff suspention will "settle". I call BS on that!

My question to you guys now is, am I experiencing the famous Chevy shake, or do 2500's really ride that bad?

I've only previously owned gasoline 1500's and this is all new to me.

I am about a millimeter away from just cutting my losses with this truck and trading it back in for a 1500, but I will be really upset with the whole experience.

Should I keep the truck and try to get used to the worst ride I've experienced, or just give up on the whole 2500 diesel thing?

I'm afraid to trade it in on a 1500 Silverado because I'm worried its going to develop the shakes.

What should I do?

I forgot to mention in the original post that I still currently own a 2006 Silverado 1500wt and it rides like a dream, smooth as silk even on the interstate. Prior to that I went thru 5 Dodge ram 1500 pick ups with no pronlems what so ever.

I find it really hard to believe that an old work truck drives a million times better than a brand new 70 thousand dollar truck with all of the options!

First determine if you have an UNUSUAL shake/vibration by driving other identical trucks off the dealer lot (3/4 ton is a LOT stiffer ride than these sweet 1500's) and then if you do have an UNUSUAL shake/vibration make sure they thoroughly check and repair the cause. I know of one case where the driveshaft carrier bearing bracket bolts had been left lose on a new truck with 200 miles on it. That caused some crazy shaking so yes anything could be wrong and yes it could be serious and should be checked.

Hey MyFavTruck,

Thats kind of my problem, I dont know how to determine if the constant shaking and bouncing is unusual or not, I've never driven a 2500hd truck before, and if I take someone with me along for a test ride that works at the dealership, they will lie and tell me its normal so they won't have to deal with the issue.

I guess I'll see if they will let me drive several different trucks so I can get a better idea.

I'm just really upset with the whole situation, I don't see the dealership owning up to a problem, and I feel that even though the truck has a much stiffer suspension, I don't think its supposed to constantly shake and bounce with no relief.
