UCA bushings creaking?

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hey guys my UCA bushings where they bolt to the frame mounts are squeaking very bad. Should I try to grease these? If so, with what? This didn't start until after lift installation. Should these have been loosened up when installing the lift and then tightened back up? This obviously isn't my area of specialty. lol

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Can you give us a little more information?

What type of lift? Spacer, coilover, 4"+?

New UCAs?

Did you install this or a shop?

2.5 RC front only spacers top and bottom. Aluminum Control arms, everything else stock. And yeah Tirediscounters did installed it when I got tires. I know...dumb move.

Thanks.

Power wash the bushings then hit em with some grease. Should help. Maybe you've got some dust/dirt in there.

Thanks guys. I'm headed to get some grease now. I kinda got the feeling it's the ball joints. Haha the Furd salesman that I bought my focus from just called a few minutes ago just "checking " to see how I am doing and said he'd make me an unbelievable "deal" on a Raptor. Haha l might just stop in and see if he'll let me drive one.

Hey Fondupot , good to see you back around.

If it works I will try to let y'all know. I'm gonna be down for a while. Going in for my 5th knee surgery in a year. Sucks.

Thank god for Percocet.

Thanks guys.

Balljoints creak, usually reversing while turning. Control arms would squeak during any suspension movement up and down, even on straight roads

I just got back from Pep Boys. Got some spray on grease and sprayed all the bushings and even sway bar bushings.

Still have problem. It's really only noticeable when sitting still or moving slowly and turning the wheels. I can really feel and hear it in steering wheel, well you know what I mean. Not the steering wheel itself. Man I hope it's not the electric power steering rack!!

Does anyone know if the ball joints on the aluminum control arms are serviceable or do you have to replace the whole thing?

Man it freakin sucks being hampered by a bum knee and can't crawl under there and tear into it myself. You can't find or trust anyone around here (Chattanooga) except for Toms 4x4 and they want 600+ to just install a full front and back set of Bilstiens and that's with me providing the shocks. I don't think so!

I'm probably just gonna have to wait till this fall after surgery and physical therapy to either fix it or.... that is a good time to trade in. Haha

Thanks guys for your help. This is the best community and group of people on the web.

Non serviceable. You can get moog control arms for pretty cheap. Their stock replacements with serviceable balljoints, not extended travel like cognito and the other aftermarket options, so they won't do anything for increasing travel.

Dang. Well that sucks. Too bad I'm still under warranty plus extended warranty with less than 19k miles on this truck and can't take it dealership because of a stupid spacer kit. Lol. I guess if you wanna play you gotta pay. Haha
