99 2500LD 6.0 dies while driving

Recommended Posts

My father in law called me this morning to see if I could try and find out any possible problems that could have caused his 6.0L to die last night. He described it as driving down the road, then, everything quit. Steering wheel locked up, engine wouldn't start, nothing. Any ideas? Could it be fuel pump, or more electrical problems? Chris

Battery cable. Is it real tight? I have a 99 Yukon and mine does that all the time :) Actaully not all the time, but I'll be driving down the rode and everything shuts off. I grab my wrench tighten the cable and off I go again. It's those d**n side mount batterys they use! This may not be the issue, but I would check it out first.

Well I talked with him some more about what exactly happened. He said it did this twice yesterday on his way home from work. The first time he said the rpm's dropped to 0 while driving, but his engine was still running at idle when he stopped, he turned it off after seeing the engine still running. He turned the key again, and it started fine. He drove it about another 25miles and then it completely stopped, engine, steering, brakes. He tried to restart it, it wouldn't. He waited about 10 minutes and tried it again. It started and he was able to drive on home. And this morning he drove it about 30 miles to the dealer without any trouble. The rpm dropping to 0 and the engine still running has me thinking some sort of sensor? thanks, Chris
