New Trailering App and Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor System

January 23, 2019 The all-new 2019 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (Fig. 1) offer available trailering systems that feature a trailering app, trailer tire pressure monitors, and HD cameras.

The trailering app that is part of Chevrolet’s Advanced Trailering System and GMC’s ProGrade Trailering System (RPO ZL6) includes a Pre-Departure Checklist, Maintenance Reminders, Trailer Light Test, Trailer Electrical Diagnostics, and Trailer Tire Pressure and Temperature Monitoring. As part of the Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor System (RPO PTT), four additional tire pressure monitor sensors are included in the Loose Ship Components package for installation on up to four trailer tires.

When on the road, additional assistance is provided by the available side-view cameras and trailer-mounted HD camera. (Fig. 2)

Voice Recognition Prompts May Change as System is Used

The Infotainment 3 systems (RPOs IOS, IOT, IOU), available on a number of 2017-2019 GM models has a voice recognition feature that offers varying responses as the system is used by the driver, based on the settings selected.

Owners who are not familiar with how the system responds to voice recognition requests may mistake normal operation as a system error or malfunction. It’s important to understand proper system operation while diagnosing the infotainment system.

Wheel Studs with Yellow Coating

The new 2019 Silverado and Sierra use wheels studs that have a yellow coating on the lower portion of the stud threads to prevent corrosion of the threads. (Fig. 14) The yellow coating is not Loctite or any type of anti-seize coating for the wheel studs.

TIP: Never apply Loctite or any other product to any wheel stud threads. Never grease or lubricate the wheel nuts, studs or mounting surfaces. Wheel nuts, studs and mounting surfaces must be clean and dry.

The yellow coating is designed to prevent corrosion on the portion of the thread that is not covered by the wheel nut. (Fig. 15) The coating should not be removed or supplemented with any other product. If the coating comes off the wheel stud, it is not necessary to replace the stud.

Always clean the threads of the wheel studs before installing the tire and wheel assembly. If the threads of the wheel stud are damaged, replace the wheel stud.

The 2019 Silverado and Sierra are the first models/model year to receive the coating on the wheel studs. The coating will be applied on additional models in future model years.

The new trailering app (RPO U1D) available on the 2019 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (Fig. 8) uses the K68 Trailer Lighting Control Module (TLCM), or Trailer Interface Module, to constantly monitor for trailer connection status, trailer lighting faults, and trailer theft deterrent purposes through the lighting circuits of the trailer.

The Navigation Data SD cards for infotainment systems with embedded navigation (RPOs IOT, IOU) (Fig. 18) that are available on 2018-2019 Regal, ATS, CTS, XTS, Terrain; and 2019 CT6, XT4, Blazer, Camaro, Colorado, Equinox, Malibu, Silverado 1500, Volt, Canyon and Sierra 1500 models should not be removed from the original vehicle or swapped between vehicles.

A new transmission fluid exchange procedure and a new formula of Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP transmission fluid have been released to address torque converter clutch (TCC) shudder conditions on 8L45 and 8L90 8-speed automatic transmissions (RPOs M5N, M5T, M5U, M5X) in some 2015-2017 Escalade, Yukon; 2015-2018 Silverado, Sierra; 2015-2019 Corvette; 2016-2018 CT6; 2016-2019 ATS, CTS, Camaro; and 2017-2019 Colorado and Canyon models.

RKE Transmitter Pocket Locations on the New Silverado and Sierra

The new 2019 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 offers bench seats (RPOs A52, AE7, AZ3) and bucket seats with a center console (RPO A50). When programming a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter, or key fob, on vehicles with keyless access, the transmitter must be placed in the proper learning location. The location is in different places based on the type of seats in the vehicle.

The next generation Diagnostic Charge Battery Station (DCBS), available beginning in July 2019 from GM Dealer Equipment, promises to make battery tester faster and easier. Integrating the latest technology, the DCBS will be able to perform comprehensive battery diagnostic services in 20 minutes or less. The new DCBS (Fig. 4) will be replacing the EL-50313 Midtronics GR8 Battery Tester/Charger currently offered through GM Dealer Equipment.

The 10L80 and 10L90 10-speed automatic transmissions (RPO MHS, MHW, MF6, MGL, MQB) available on 2017-2019 Camaro, 2018-2019 Escalade, Tahoe, Yukon Denali, 2019 CT6, Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, and Suburban models feature a Part Unique Number that may contain the number zero (Fig. 28, #1) and/or the letter O. (Fig. 28, #2)

If the transmission valve body is replaced, the software may not accept the Part Unique Number (PUN) during the characterization procedure if the PUN is incorrect. Keep in mind that the PUN may contain the letter O as well as the number 0 (zero).

The PUN must be entered correctly during programming. Be sure to enter the PUN accurately and to take notice of the difference between the letter O and the number zero.
