2019 Ram

I remember when I bought my 1992 silverado I was like "WOW, I've got power windows, locks, & cruise control in a truck!"  They have come a long way but as some others have mentioned, almost too much stuff going on in the interior.  It may sound silly but I kind of miss a simple truck with an AM/FM stereo and a real bench seat.

That Ram needs some more buttons...  what is all that crap and who needs it?

Trucks are hot but I know a lot of families that drive 2 full sized trucks that used to be 1 truck and 1 SUV because full sized SUVs are so pricey now a days. You put a topper on a new fully loaded LT quad cab and it’s 20+ grand less than a used Suburban. I seen an article about the new f350 dually and fully loaded it’s over 100g it was like Ford was proud of that, but all I could think is who can really afford that? I’m all for nicer interiors in these trucks but at what cost?

What's sad is it's clearly GM is releasing a new truck that is already out done by the competition, at least interior wise.

It is a deliberate design choice by GM to produce the next generation of trucks with an interior that reflects the success of the current generation of trucks. Familiarity is a powerful sales tool.   There will be consumers who see this as being behind the competition and I'm confident the marketing department is aware of this segment of the truck buying population.  I really like the looks of the 2019 trucks inside and out.  I am also glad that my current truck will have some characteristics of the new models!

I really like the styling of the new Ram 1500.  Without seeing it in person and only in photos, it seems they are the class leader in interiors.  The only thing, and it's a big thing, that would scare me away is FCA's reputation for lack of quality.  If the roll out of these trucks are good and they hit the road with few problems they have a winner on their hands. But if they suffer similar quality issues as FCA has in the past, the pretty interior won't save them.  Doesn't matter how nice your interior is if you can't enjoy the ride for it being in the shop.  Hope they got it right because it sure is a nice looking truck.

Dodge can change the interior all they want but the exterior still looks like a 2002.  Couple that with a box that will maybe last 7 years before it rots from the inside out.  My 2006 3500 Laramie started getting blisters after 7 years and it was rust proofed every 2 years.

I'd never consider Dodge ever again.  The damn front ends last maybe 40 - 60K before you have to replace all the ball joints and control arms.  My buddies 2011 2500 has already received a new front end, rear brake calipers (ceased), full brakes, new rad, DPF issues galore, exhaust, and it constantly throws codes.  It has less than 100K on it.

You can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.

I'm done with Chrysler. That big UConnect screen is beautiful but they're buggy. My Grand Cherokee does weird stuff fairly often. Won't pair to the phone, super laggy when using bluetooth to change tracks, some days it will sync but still play audio through the phone. And Chrysler just phoned in the new UI- they literally took two pages from the screen- say climate and radio and stacked them. They could do so much more with this.

The bigger issue is the lack of anything resembling quality from Chrysler. My Wrangler had a coolant leak that ended up being a bad radiator at like 20,000 miles and now the Grand Cherokee with 18k is losing coolant too. It isn't broadly applicable but the local dealer is absolutely useless too.

This is how Chrysler has done it for ages- they make cool looking stuff that just falls apart.

Just went to philadelphia auto show yesterday. Sat in the new 2019 Ram. Wow, that interior is so much nicer than GM's. Much nicer than the 2019 GM interior as well. They really knocked it out of the park. Has me seriously considering it.

So you have sat in the new trucks since you are already claiming they are much nicer? What parts particularly seemed nicer to the touch/feel or look in person?

What's sad is it's clearly GM is releasing a new truck that is already out done by the competition, at least interior wise. Gm has decided to be lazy in the interior department and it shows with a nearly regurgitated 14-18 interior in the new 19 model line. The competition looks to have upped it's game while GM continues to play catch-up.

You do realize first off this is a truck right? It should have a truck inspired interior and layout, not something yanked from a sedan to be pretty but have big knobs that are durable and easy to grab and turn. Pushing little buttons all over the place sucks.

They stayed with a similar design because as they said in the release it tested the best and what customers wanted, actual truck people wanted an interior for a truck imagine that. Ever hear of evolutionary design? That's what this is, toggles, knobs and switches work best for big hands are are less prone to breaking. Just like the previous redesign GM listened to what people were crying about and they gave it, ditto with here. Heated rear seats, rear vents, more storage (tons more), V8's with good power and mpg, adaptive cruise, a diesel, more transmission gears, round wheel wells, keyless start, big weight savings with steel and so on. They even improved the best part that makes a truck a truck (which many seem to not need or use) the bed. Glad they stayed close to the interior of the 14-18 with improvements. I promise they made even more leaps in quality department and soft touch materials versus the 14-18 (which were pretty good) for all the suburban dads coming from luxury cars.

What about the tech and features the others don't have? HUD, power tailgate, bed outlet and some other neat features they showed. Every brand catches up each time, something is always left off that another comes with next time, they all play catch up when a new truck is unveiled. Some new stuff isn't good either btw for a truck or works well... Where Dodge stayed evolutionary in their body GM did with their interior. People should stop crying about the petty stuff by quit reading the BMW brochures and see they made swings in the most important truck bits as well as catered to the luxury car driving whiners.

It is so fun reading comments after a reveal then see the tons change less than a year later after some actual thought it put in to it or they drive and see it in person.

The RAM instrument clusters and that rotary dial are absolutely criminal. You couldn't pay me to take one, especially with FIAT running the show.

Who the hell wants a truck like interior, what exactly is a truck like interior anyway. Spartan, simple, nothing extra?

buy a base model then

i want a luxo truck, and I want the inside to be like an s-class mercedes and the outside to be a truck. Thats the entire point of a luxury truck.

There’s a million things I like about gm’s than RAM, but I’m not a moron, I can see when another company does something better.

Tesla has the integrated (giant) touchscreen mastered.  Bug-free.   It can be done.

I have only owned a Jeep - that required a rear dif rebuild not long after I bought it - but FCA hasn’t shaken the quality thing in my opinion.

Nor to mention what all those little cracks and buttons will look like a year down the road, dulled and full of dust.
