First post here but wanted everyone to know before they too get screwed by their power train warranty. I have A 2015 gmc 1500 Denali 6.2 and have had transmission problems after about 10000 miles or so . I have taken it in and asked to have the transmission looked at with nothing but “can’t find a problem “ from service. I installed a k and n dry synthetic intake to my truck after about 15,000 miles(I have about 50k now).  Took my truck in about 7months ago due to the transmission hitting hard throughout gears. When i take the car out of park into reverse there is a hard knock and a decent jolt. Sometimes when driving it and getting onto a freeway the gas pedal does not work then kicks in after a few seconds (pretty scary ). Another issue is if I give it gas in 4th or 5th it revs high then I feel like I and being rear ended and then the truck moves. This is crazy that this is happening. The dealership did a reprogramming of the transmission and 7 months I take it back they pull it apart and find pieces of the clutch in the bottom of the transmission pan. They call me today and tell me that the aftermarket CAI is the cause of the problem. They say the mass air flow censor is covered in oil from the air filters oil? My air filter is a dry synthetic filter just wash with water and air dry so I call their bullshit. They then call me back and say they looked into the filter I own and it is a dry filter and there was no oil on it. Wow wtf. They bullshit their way out of everything. Just wanted people to know when they have this problem be one step ahead of them and keep your stock air intake . It is absolutely absurd to say my clutch is coming apart in my transmission because of a aftermarket air intake. They are also not honoring the warranty and want me to pay $4480 for a new trans. This will probably be my last gm car ever.

Even after they called you back and confirmed the filter was not oiled they still denied the warranty claim? I'd try another dealer and then give GM a call and create a case with them. Intake and clutch fragments in the in the tranny pan have nothing to do with eachother, we obviously know that.

And gm also put a hold on my warranty until I pay the 4480 out of pocket to fix the transmission . I know a lot of gmc 1500 owners with transmission problems they are straight crooks. Beware people.

Apparently the "warranty" is worthless so I wouldn't even care if there was a hold on it if you didn't pay the $4480.

I wonder if the hold is the only thing GM does or if they send to collection or put a lien on the vehicle. I'd be looking for an attorney.

That is the risk you take when installing/replacing any factory part with an aftermarket part while the vehicle is under warranty.  You might not like it but that is what happens, you have to pay to play.  Did the K&N filter cause the problem?  Probably not but if I was GM I would do the same thing because you alerted how GM designed the vehicle.  It is now up to you to prove that the filter did not cause the problem.

You are right and I also keep my trucks totally stock due to them being in commercial service. Having said that,  it's on the dealer to explain how the CAI broke the transmission. Obviously, it didn't and this gentleman should get his repair covered under warranty unless he's not telling the whole story.

No reason to lie the facts are real.

They are not holding my truck hostage for the money they are letting me pick it up with nothing out of pocket . They will just turn down any warranty claims from here on out unti I pay the 4480 to fix the trans.

I personally you’d pay the couple hundred dollars and get a letter from a lawyer.

I worked at a dealership and this is wrong they can’t go back on what they said, this is why you should do everything over email, or record your phone calls.

There are a couple things you can change with out voiding warranty and a air intake is one of them unless you buy a no name eBay brand that doesn’t use the original oem air sensor.

The only time I’ve heard of a cold air intake voided a warranty is when someone took their truck into water and the intake sucked it up into the engine.

Warranty only covered half the cost after he call head office and complained and complained. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I hope this works out for you, I would get your truck out of their if they are going to make up bull crap reasons why they don’t want to fix something that they would get paid to fix.

Call head office and just be polite but demanding/ ask for a manager. it just takes one of the people there to like you to make this all go away.
