I say GMC because all of my dealings above the Chevy dealership is with GMC headquarters, not Chevy Corporation.

GMC is a brand.  GM (General Motors) is the parent company.

Common occurrence on Hummers (H2/H3) when off-roading, but usually took a steep angle to set them off. And I know of no one who ever had GM pay the bill for the problem. However, insurance covered the costs (minus deductible of course).

Thanks for pointing that out, it's super important, I will be sure to use the correct acronym reference moving forward.

I have an email from GM, and phone number that connects me to GMC for my case manager and a letter from Chevy about the denial.

GM, GMC, Chevy, all the same shitty customer service company in my opinion.

There's other ZR2 owners on the coloradofans forum who did indeed have GM pay for the repair, mine is the first they did not.

Geico is covering the damages minus my deductible.  One month later my truck is still not fixed, airbags are backordered.

well we'll, I just bought a Colorado zr2 from Conelle chevy. I only have 2000 miles on my brand new truck and my roof airbag curtans have deployed on me. I was just on a fire trail. O need for 4 wheel drive I was In 2 wheel. My roof Air Bags went off. So I believe this isn't as rare as GM wants people to think. My car is at the dealer right now I believe there will try to give me some bullsh*** that my roll bar and light bar is the reason and try to reject fixing it but we shall see. Because my bags went off in the day time so all my light switches were off. There's no way a open circuit can effect the airbag module. That would be like saying jumping your battery would make them deploy. Come on this isn't just coincidence guys. They have a serious problem GM needs to own it and take care of it before a class action lawsuit is set in motion.

Hi Fellows,

This is my ZR2 and I wanted to comment directly.

Most of the comments here are fair enough, if the yaw sensor felt too much a learn then the airbags deployed as intended.

Where does it say in the manual the degree angle you shouldn't pass, using the built in off road angle display that's on the DIC?

It doesn't.

The things that I want to point out is that Chevy markets this truck and a "purpose built premium off road truck" and markets it with photos of it jumping, sliding, rock crawling, etc.   While the sensors or programming in this truck might be perfect for all other GM trucks, this one is supposed to be special - they pretty much dare you to push the limits of the ZR2 in the marketing.  I did just that.

With that said, my first gripe is how the engineering on this truck and marketing are two far different things if the airbags can go off (even on just a small number of them) when it's not in an actual rollover situation.

When I said "not leaned over too far" I mean that there was absolutely no chance of the truck rolling over and I felt I had before been on angles steeper than when it went off.  I know, it's subjective.  I was moving slowly, in 4wd low in offload mode, there was not sudden drop or jolt.

GMC could very well just change the software to disable or raise the side curtain airbags when in off road mode, or with a switch - with all the appropriate warning labels.

They have overlooked this and left in the same parameters as all other trucks, which isn't right for a ZR2.

The thing that really has me fired up is instead of telling me why the airbags went off, giving me any data they most certainly have from the Raytheon investigator analysis of the black box, they have chosen to make up excuses of not paying for repairs.

I could live with them telling me "you were at 20º lean when the airbags deployed, they work as intended and we're not covering it".

Instead they said:" it was advised that damage to your Colorado and aftermarket wiring may have had some impact in the deployment no repair assistance will be provided by General Motors."

The "damage" was a minor dent on the fender THAT THE DEALER CASUED AFTER I DROPPED IT OFF, they have taken responsibility for it. that was the icing on the cake to find fresh damage to my truck yesterday when meeting my insurance.

So that leaves my "electrical modifications", which was adding LED lights and a power cable for my winch.  Anyone with some technical knowledge would argue that correcting a few accessories the battery could not effect airbag deployment.

GMC has dug in and will not answer my phone calls, I have requested their findings in writing and they have not sent it to me, beyond a reply on facebook from Chevy Trucks that I quoted above in the official reason they are denying the claim.

In my view, this is a safety issue for all ZR2 owners who are more likely to drive their trucks on challenging terrain that folks with more standard trucks. Besides that, I'm looking at being without my brand new truck for 5-6 weeks and it's unknown if my insurance is going to cover it. They can't determine if it was a system malfunction which should be a warranty thing, or if it was a comprehensive claim due to how I was driving the truck. I'll either pay out of pocket completely or I'll pay the deductible and look forward to higher premiums.  I've never made an auto claim in 30 years of driving.

Part of my frustration is the fact that it happened, the other is the response from GMC to a lifelong customer.

I'm sharing my story in hopes of helping anyone else avoid this mess, it's happened 4 times in ZR2's so far that can be found online.

I don't see GM changing their mind... they are done with me obviously and shame on them.

I just had this happen to my 2016 Chevy Colorado, it is at Chevy right now.  They have had it for two days now and still can’t figure things out.  We were doing a simple you turn and they deployed.  Obviously they should do a recall on these, and I would seek a lawyer.  A off road vechicle should not do this.

I have a very nicely equipped 2017 Chev. Silverado z71 Quad Cab. Only have 6500 miles on it and bought it as a kind of retirement gift for myself. I use it for various things but mostly to go fishin or huntin in and tow my 18 foot Basstracker. The issue I am having is backing my boat back into the garage with it. I live in town on an alley and it is very tight trying to get the proper angle backing into the garage, especially if the neighbor is parked on the other side of the alley. I am wondering how much I might be gaining in maneuverability by trading it in for a smaller truck? Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for any help.

Recently installed a Blackvue DR590W 2-channel dash cam system into my 2019 Canyon. I used a Powermagic pro to hardwire it to the vehicle, and a Blendmount to attach it. Really like the video quality of these cameras.

      Check out my install video.

Just actually stumbled across this page while browsing coloradofans. Jeff from Dallas Texas, 2018 Colorado 4x4 LT, basically Stock as it's my daily. Also have a 2018 Camaro ZL1. I need some help, before I start looking at all of your trucks, mods, other cool stuff..

(copied this from coloradofans.com, also from a few subs on reddit..)

Hi all, need some advice- Let me preface this with, I am not trying to get anyone in trouble nor an I trying to throw anyone under the bus. I just want my Colorado fixed. I appreciate anyones feedback as I explain the story.
      2018 Colorado LT, 4x4, 30k miles....

About three weeks ago, I had an appointment at my local Chevrolet dealer, which is a very large dealer in the Dallas/Fort-Worth metroplex. The truck has a very weird sounding, only can be described as an intermittent, yet ANNOYING and LOUD squeaking/rubbing sound coming from what sounds like the front of the truck. I showed up to my appointment, and the service advisor and I went for a ride, and he said that he could barely hear the sound, but I was able to hear it as clear as day. He also pointed out that he heard it when we accelerated, and when we braked. Nothing when we were coasting, not using the brakes, etc. He told me that I would have to leave it with him for a few days, or get there early on a Saturday for his guys to take it in. I didn't have the ability to do that at the time, so I told him I would reach back out in about a week or so.
Fast forward a week - I was to be traveling so I was going to leave the truck prior to leaving the DFW airport. I ran some errands in the morning, and after getting the truck up to operating temperature, It is not making the sound, at all. Unfortunately I did not have the time to deal with this at the time so I went back to my house, and hopped a ride to the airport.

Once I got back, and started my routine I noticed that the noise is still back and I can still hear it as loud as day. I made an appointment for 8:15 AM on last Tuesday. I showed up at 7:30 and they got me checked in. We took it for a ride around the lot, and the service advisor heard the noise. He got me right in. the shuttle took me to work. About three hours later he called me and he said - and please bear with me, I am no mechanic and my terminology may be off - "There was a seal in the transfer casing that was rotted..we fixed it, blah blah..and now it is not making the noise, OH, and you need an oil change. Want that while you're here?".

Hopped an uber back to the dealer on my lunch and drove back to the office. Everything seemed fine. I got out of work around 5pm that day and went to the grocery store, sure enough, the noise is still there, and louder than ever. I am getting frustrated at this point. I reviewed the work order only to find out that it mentions nothing about fixing anything, only that the tech could not duplicate the issue I described.

At this point, I am very hesitant to go back to that dealership, so I reach out to some other local enthusiasts for a referral, and I make contact with someone who works at a dealership about 30minutes south of where I live. I was to stop by Saturday morning, and ask for his buddy the service advisor. No problem at all. I stopped in right on time, met with the advisor, we took it for a ride around the lot. Sure enough, there it is! The noise on the stop, and on the go! He heard it, I heard it. But he told me that they won't get to it until Monday because the suspension, front end guys, etc, won't be in. I say OK, Whatever it takes. I also say, hey since I am new to town and need my registration switched, can you guys please do a safety inspection? He says yeah no problem.

Another $35 uber back to my apartment.

Today I get a call. And now, I am being told that the noise I am hearing is the noise of air going into the engine, and it's louder because I have a K&N Blackwing Cold Air Intake system. Which makes absolutely zero sense, since the noise only happens on the stop and go, and it's also a grinding/rubbing/squeaking noise. However, at this point.. I am not arguing. Because I have a short temper and I really don't want to be mean right now. You catch more bees with honey than vinegar.  I just picked it up, and it's still making the same noise. The intake is not causing the issue.. and I don't have the stock one as I just moved here.

I'm not a mechanic, but that's the stupidest **** I've ever heard. I have had intakes on all of my cars. There's one on my 2018 ZL1 camaro, no noises like that. I had them on my 2016 SS, 2015 C7, etc.. Never had any issues. The only COMMON issue here is that much like in the past like I've dealt with Pontiac back in 2009, the dealership is using any kind of excuse to not have to do any work at all. (Example - in 2010, broken ball joint on my 2009 g8 gt - they blamed it on my roto-fab engine covers hitting the hood, when in fact, it was a MAJOR TSB..)

      So a couple of things.

      1) Where in DFW can I go to get this fixed
      2) Should I even bother calling the GM customer care number.. because I am SERIOUSLY SICK OF "NO RENTALS BEING AVAILABLE" and having to pay for an uber. It's going to cost me $36 to get to the dealer tomorrow to pick the truck up.
      3) Any other advise.

      Thanks in advance.
