Red Rally 2 build

Recommended Posts

Well, I got side tracked last night and ordered a Caddy engine cover. Of course I had to order the studs and Chevy emblem to go with it... then the red and clear to paint it... I ordered a black Rally decal and because I am old school, a black 325 CU decal as well. It should be a fun little project.

the engine cover is going to look great!

i've been considering getting one for my truck... but my truck is black (so what colour to paint the cover?) and lifted so you can't really see the engine that well anyways

Paint (red and clear) and matt black 325 cu decals came in today.

I can see your point on black on black. My only thought would be black with another color graphics. Maybe charcoal as an offset? Might not be much bang for the buck though.

No new parts delivered yet. I am finding myself researching and building a parts list for future upgrades.

The latest is dual batteries... my H3 had them and I had to build and design the set up in the spot intended for just one. When I popped the hood on my Rally, I spotted the extra tray in there. Wow, all that room. So off I go studying up on how to add it. Even went as far as to get ready to start ordering parts... then I stopped... what am I doing? The H3 had a winch, inverter, etc... hence the “need” for another battery. Keep in mind that in the 10 years I had it in there, not once did I have to use it. Ok, I still made the dual battery parts list, but for someday... Been looking at tunes as well... I think I may have Silverado upgrade disease...

Dawned on me today that I did not share my first and most used upgrade.. not easy to see in pictures, but two small bubble mirrors. One on each side facing the ground. I think they were $2 apiece, but they protect my expense 22 inch rims from the curbs.

All the supplies are in, but no parts. I ordered them from GMpartsdirect on the 11th and no order status to date. I might have been better off on eBay...  Here is what I was thinking for the drivers side of the cover:

or I could go this route if there was enough room:

I was thinking of the other 325 cu decal on the short side, but that may be too much.

I also replaced the dealer decal with my own. I’ve been into retro M16 clones for years.

Parts came today! I already removed the Caddy emblem and removed the adhesive. It is stuck on there well, but the trick is to insert a punch in the hole on the back side of the emblem to assert upwards pressure while you pry gently around the out side edges.

I was really surprised at how rough a texture the Caddy silver was. I lightly sanded it, then primed with adhesive promoter, then primed and wet sanded. Then base coat red, wet sanded, clear, wet sanded, the clear. The wet sands were not crazy, heavy sanding. Just cutting the surface for the next coat. Spent a little more time on the flat surfaces since I intended to add the decals.

Finally got around to clay baring the hood today. I did a good detailed washing of the truck, then used the clay. I had never done clay before and I can’t believe how much dirt came out of the paint. The hood was very course when you wiped it down and would “catch the rag. Now it is smooth as glass.

So my battery needed a jump on sunday leaving o'riley's. got them to give me a jump and as i'm driving home, the radio shuts off. now the tv only turns on when I put the truck in reverse. i checked the radio fuse and its good. also opened up the glove compartment and unplugged the blue cable for 15 sec like i saw in a youtube video. I should also add that im able to listen to the radio using the steering wheel controls but only for about 15 min before it shuts itself off.

I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 LT with the 6 speed transmission. The transmission seems very sloppy to me and almost every time I am coming to a stop, the transmission will clunk while shifting down. The truck has around 80,000 miles on it and did have some front end damage to it but i don’t see why that would have anything to do with the transmission. Has anyone experienced this and/or have a fix?

      Sorry guys, long post.

Haven't been around much lately, with engineering new equipment for mostly garment manufacturers, travelling all over, working 18 hour days.

      Now I'm retired. Thank God

For those that don't know me, you are lucky?

I've always modified my cars and trucks. My  son and I built many cars and trucks that have been featured vehicles at SEMA. Some sponsored by GM an Avalanche. Some from Ford, An F250 Lifted. Both of those ended up in front pages of magazines.

My son decided to get a real job, and I didn't want to continue by myself, the reason I was doing it so my son could learn mechanical electrical stuff. Since he always also modified cars, vans, mini trucks, etc.
And wanted to learn from the biggest hacker in the world.

This is my current truck and more likely my last, so I'm enjoying to the fullest.

      Her it goes..

2" front lift to level it. (for those complaining about the pogo stick rear end when going through bumps or whoops, this will fix it.)

Homelink from Mito (programable garage door opener) always on.. I hope no one breaks into my truck and gets in the garage and tries to rob old rusted bicyles, dog food, cat food, I forgot my 2002 Corvette Z06 with 30,000 miles. And my Carbonfiber Trek. ls forgot my pitbull that lives in the garage when we are not home.

Cargo Bed with LED lights GM from eBay

Added 6 round eye load tie downs GM from eBay

Wired a second 5 lead trailer plug hidden behind rear bumper to install 60" brake, turn signal and reverse lights from eBay. (dont buy them from an auto parts store, I bought mine for $21 on eBay)

Black grille bowtie from GM - all other emblems shaved.

2 extra horns same as what the truck came with from eBay.
Chevy center caps shaved off in the back and glued them to the old Nissan  ones. People ask me if they are from the 2020 HD trucks. LOL I had them before GM

I did all the installs, including wiring like GM would put. -  All emblem removal by yours truly.
