1998 chevy silverado slow to go into gear from park & drive

Recommended Posts

I have a 1998 Chevy Silverado. 305, it is slow to go into gear (drive or reverse) from park. Seems to have a slight bit of "surging" until it gets well warmed up. Once warmed up (10-15 minutes) it seems to be OK.

Except, If I have to stop quickly, it bangs into gear if I put my foot on the gas pedal too accelerate again. If wait a few seconds it seems does not bang into gear..

It has 428000 kilometers on it, fluid is clean, full and no burnt smell.

Has never towed a trailer to my knowledge. I have owned it for over 200000 of the 428000 kilometers.

I love the truck, it rides so nice.

Any ideas?
