Trailer ball rotating

Just got back from a week long trip pulling the trailer, unloading it all today and noticed that the ball has been rotating in the hitch. Never seen that before... I know it's plenty tight [emoji848][emoji19]863073ec156ac2af3e5d8d19e4dc6f7e.jpg1b8f3f512385bf55c8cfda05dc9ee8a7.jpgdeb84bea3e5be6cff4043e373dab8c87.jpg

Interesting! I haven't seen this before.  I'm confident you've checked the obvious like there is enough thread on the shaft for the thickness of the receiver.  I'd take it apart, clean it up,  replace the lock washer and torque to spec.  Being loose can't be a good thing!  (I also put a dab of grease on the ball before attaching my trailer which may be easier on the ball)

I tell ya that nice truck and trailer, go pick up a brand new ball, with fresh lock washer and call it good. There inexpensive and give you piece of mind.
Thanks crankman, here's another picture for ya[emoji6]

When I originally did it, I had the hitch sideways in the receiver, and I was jumping on a 24" pipe wrench. The wrench might have been hitting something and not applying torque anymore I suppose. I took the ball out, had a look at everything, it all looked good, so I did the same thing, but used a 24" adjustable this time, making sure it didn't hit anything, and was jumping on that (I'm 230lbs) I think she's going to be ok.

I greased up the ball and the bar pockets again, should be good. Just goes to show, ya always got to be checking your shit to make sure it's good. c7a86ffd8c4c6ed009d08c20f9d2eb03.jpg2a4697aab2622bf07a8e2cd19edc559f.jpg24579460835987fcb8eebd7fe40ff766.jpg

I pull new campers from the factories.  Been doing this for over 8 years now.  Another thing I have noticed if using a 10k rated ball with some of trailers their couplers will actually bite into the ball.  Causes the ball to move when turning.   I have since went to a much harder 30k rated ball.  Couplers havent been able to bite into it.
