motor noise behind the center of the dash

I've noticed a strange noise coming from the center of the dash just behind the radio of my 2000 Silverado. It's definitely electrical and sounds like an electric motor turning.

The noise is audible as soon as I start the vehicle. It remains audible while I turn the vehicle off and finally stops when I open the door. The HVAC system is totally off as is the radio.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Do you have a CD Player? If so it is probably the culprit. I have the same noise ocassionally and that is what I think it is.

Try turning off the radio and see if it goes away.

There is a fan behind the head unit on your radio to keep the elctronics cool. You can definatly hear it run...

That is exactly what it is. A fan. It will even run with the ign off.

a squirrel or small rodent might have made a nest in your dash. After you start the vehicle you startle the animal and it sits there and growls at you. It stops when you open the door because the animal senses that the human presence is leaving. It's just a idea... Or it might just be a fan.
