Terry said it should be below 10.  As you can see it has never gotten that low.

Interesting. Thanks. Mine was 12 so I'll have to listen to the recordings again. Love this thread. A place to learn.

Last:

2009 Silverado

  • 24 Nov 2018
  • 75,709 miles
  • 6 quarts Quaker State Ultimate Durability 5W-30 full-synthetic motor oil
  • Last AC Delco PF48 (NOT PF48E e-core!) oil filter from my cache.
  • 9% remaining on Oil Life Monitor.
  • Also greased 2 tie rod end zerks with Valvoline full synthetic grease.
  • Tapped out AC Delco A3181C air filter.  (replace every 33k miles)
  • And did last rotation on worn out factory OEM Bridgestone Dueler A/T RH-S tires before replacing with Dueler H/L Alenza Plus in same size.
  • Uses less oil with Quaker State Ultimate Durability than it did with Pennzoil Platinum.

Next up:

2009 Silverado

  • 25 May 2019
  • estimated ~80,000 miles
  • 6 quarts new Shell Gas Truck all-mileage full-synthetic 5W-30 motor oil
  • Wix 57060 oil filter
  • estimated 0% left on OLM
  • Always grease 2 tie rod end zerks at every oil change and tap out air filter.
  • Will use Mobil1 full synthetic grease for next manual grease gun cartridge replacement.
  • Used approx. 2 quarts in between oil changes (infamous AFM oil usage problem; TSB performed, AFM turned off at 36,000 miles).  Hoping it will use even less oil with Shell Gas Truck (similar additive pack as to their diesel oil, to clean fouled piston oil control rings) than it did with Quaker State UD.

What the E filter? I bought a PF63F for mine

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro

The F designates a case lot of the PF63. At least that's they way all our filters we purchase for our trucks. PF48F, PF63F.....that's what is on the case box

Pepper 262 CID V-6

90,000 miles

5,000 OCI

6 Quarts Red Line 0W30 High Performance

Cleaned K & P oil filter

Seems the 0W20 was frothing (aerating) in the warmer weather (oil temperature over 200F) at higher RPM (above 2500 rpm). Had not been an issue until air temperatures exceeded 80 F. Not foam (water) froth (air). It would reach proper pressure then fade and/or fluctuate. SAE 30 seems to have cured this. 125 mile test run plus a few hard passes with the data system active.

Note: Absolute peak pressure difference between 0W20 and 0W30 is less than 2 psig. No surprise there. Actual 212 F vis is less than 2 cSt different.

Pepper 262 CID V-6

95,000 miles

5K OCI

K&P filter clean 6 quarts Red Line High Performance 0W20.

Installed cooler 170 F thermostat and between the last two changes had the oil pressure checked.

It was instrument issues not oil froth so back to the W20.

For others: the 0W30 performed excellently.

2014 Terrain 2.4

95,000 miles

5K OCI

5 Quarts Red Line 0W30 and NAPA Gold filter.

5W30 Mobil 1 showed no reduction in usage. 3/4 quart in 5K.

Nick AMSOIL is up next. Need lowest NOACK.

The SS 5w-20 is 5.8 and the 10w-30 is 4.1 NOACK.  So the 10w-30 is the lowest in the SS line.
