Duel battery setup

gdwrnch329

Question

I’ve seen where people set up duel batteries in parallel running a lot of cable.

Can you run a positive cable with a fusible link from the alternator to the positive side of the battery then ground the negative to the frame, or body of the truck? I just need it to charge a second battery for winch, lights, stereo, not to help start the truck.

i have a 2011 Silverado 1500 6.2, the main battery is on the passenger side next to the firewall, the new battery location is on drivers side next to radiator support.

Frame ground is fine, as long as all the connections are good. Wire wheel to BARE steel, then coat with dielectric grease all over to prevent corrosion.

Fusible link on alternator wire is a good plan, so long as it's rating is correct.
