Rear window leak

I am not confident they’ve done anything for 2021. Trucks are already on the lots. And we have here a late 2020 in this thread (built in August) that leaks. What’s another month or two gonna do to solve it when they’ve known about the problem since late 2018...

Really hoping it’s ironed out for 2022. If I buy trucks 3 years apart with the same problem, I won’t be happy.

Mine is at the dealer waiting for a new back window. My question is wtf are they going to do to correct the problem on these trucks even if they redesign the 22 models rear window?  The other thing is every gmc/Chevy truck I see here in Michigan has a rear slider , it’s hard for me to believe everyone is leaking

Not sure. Just noticed that some of the 2022 mules have a different color spoiler from the body color, so maybe they are working on some redesigned parts or enhancements underneath. Either in the cab structure or the frame. Or maybe they are just parts bin mules.

Either way, I can’t imagine them not having this solved by then. The amount of parts and labor they’ve spent on this is insane.

Other thing I’ve noticed is that the leak is easy to overlook if it’s minor or you’re never in the back seat. With the tinted windows it’s kinda dark back there. So even a wet headliner is somewhat hard to spot if you ain’t paying attention. Guarantee some of these guys are driving around with leaks unknowingly.

I would say the majority of owners are driving leaking trucks with no knowledge of it. Nor will they likely ever discover it or take action. When I first noticed mine, I thought it was dripping on the OUTSIDE of the window. It wasn’t until I was parked on an incline during a multi-day steady rain event that I noticed it because it leaked onto the top of the seat vs just trickling down the window.

Anyone comment on 2021s leaking yet? I’d have to think the labor and supplies to fix the window issue is eating into GM’s profits enough to address it, and really, the biggest bite into their profits is when folks get rid of their trucks for another brand. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Just joined the group. Took my 2019 LT TB in Tuesday of this week for rear window leak. The headliner is stained also. The dealership seemed surprised
Dealership is full of crap. They know about it. Mine knows about it, and it hasn't rained here since before I moved here over a month ago.

Going back to your point earlier of GM trimming too much fat to save weight and the body flex causing the leaking....it does seem there are a lot fewer cases on the HD models, not completely exempt but doesn’t seem as wide spread.

Good morning from Westchester NY!

2020 Trail Boss here.... ...rear carpet is wet, ceiling is damp, truck smells of mildew.  I am ****ing LIVID because my 2016 was doing the same thing.  I called the dealership this morning to schedule a drop off and i specified this as a RECALL because i am not the only one clearly with this issue.  Can we all do something about this together?  Complain to GM?   I need my truck on a daily basis WITHOUT it being defective, paying all this money for ******.   I cannot justify paying over $50K for a pickup that has simple issues like this?  Who the hell builds these junk boxes and where is the testing being done.....virtual?

Nothing I’ve seen yet, but not many have bought 21s. Other thing is it often takes time for them to leak. Mine held out for over 7000 miles before going.

You know the aftermarket like CRL will make a window to fix this. But not right away as they are all still under warranty. But they are designing them now I am sure for damage replacement. I would just pay for one and go that route if it's available. I'd rather have an auto glass guy who only dose auto glass install it anyway. Most aftermarket stuff is better anyway. My truck had the factory tried fold bed cover at almost a grand. There are much better aftermarket options for less.

I had my 2020 TB for three months and had no leaks around the back window.

I'll keep an eye on it during the fall and winter months due to the cold temperatures and increased frequency of rain/snow.

Well I now have a very minor leak on the rear window - driver side.

Issue was discovered yesterday when it was raining gently.

I dropped it off at my dealer earlier today, whom will sent it out to a auto window company for repair.

I should have it back tomorrow.

I haven’t read through all 159 pages so sorry if this has been covered but has anyone tried to fill the gap with clear silicone on their own? Seems like you could silicone the “spoiler” gap without taking anything apart to keep water out. Lame to have to do that to a brand new truck but seems like relying on GM/dealers to fix it is a lost cause...

Edit: or put in weather stripping???

I"m interested in something like this.  A clear caulking that is safe on paint and can be removed easily if need be, in case you need to remove the spoiler to access something (harness, etc.).
