Oil pump / low oil pressure light

So, I personally don't own a Colorado.  I have a friend that does and I'm about to change his oil pump.  Not being familiar with the 3.7.  I'm wondering if this is a known problem with the oil pump.  Or does the sensors fail and trip the light?  If it is the oil pump, does the harmonic dampener get pulled?  Any other insights or tips with the 3.7 are welcome.
