Transmission Fluid 99 Chevy S10 5 speed

Does anybody know if I can use regular Dextron III synthetic in a manual transmission for my s10...The ridiculous price of the transmission fluid from the dealership is about $27 bucks a quart. Can I skimp by on a less expensive ATF?

You should be using gear oil...Not Tranny fluid in a manual tranny as far as I know.

no I know you don't use gear oil. 1994+ use transmission fluid. Old manuals used the gear oil of course. The GM Part number that is recommended is 12345349 for the 1999

 

I just want to know if there is a cheap equivalent.

Yeah...I guess my last stick (other than my 02 reg cab, which hasn't needed a service yet) was an 88.
