Anyone lost brakes besides me.

Anyone one else have their system auto update? Wonder if this will remedy the issue?

This update has been expected and it is only for the infotainment unit and associated components ie bluetooth etc.

Just wanted to update truck was at dealer for a month, same error msgs and brake issues at start up after an app or remote start we've all posted about.

Had them do PIT5728B and so far no issues with app or remote starts.

Feel nice to have my truck back after being in a base equinox for a month

GM has offered to buy your truck back?

Yes, but I’m still waiting to hear the details because I’ve lifted it with a BDS suspension kit and put on 35’s, plus other extras, so lets see that they offer me.

Yes, please let me know. GM told me for weeks that they were going to offer me a settlement... now that the "fix" is out they have changed their recommendation and I have not heard back at all.

Same here. Just picked up truck after 1 week at dealership. They performed the "yet to be released" PIT5728B reprogram/update. This should fix the issues that people have been having. Truck drives good and no issues so far.

I was told that GM has the PIT update but had not fully released it yet when mine was done. I believe the full release is today 01/22/2020. Found the bulletin info on gm site, but can't find it again.

Check with your local dealership to make sure. Heck, they may not even know about it yet. I had to tell my dealership about it and they had no idea it existed.

Hope this helps.

Dealer called me this morning and said that they have reprogrammed a dozen trucks since Thursday and no returns as of today. Taking mine in Monday.

I just had the exact failure on my 2019 Sierra SLT as everyone else has a couple of nights ago pulling out of a hospital parking lot (fitting right?!). Same lights as everyone else: "Brake System Failure 62 MPH Top Speed", "Service ESC", "Service Trailer Brake". Like some of the others I used the MyGMC app to start the truck when it occurred. I had what felt like 50% braking power when I pulled out of the parking spot so I circled the lot found another spot and stopped the truck. I haven't seen anyone mention yet that they were able to pull the codes immediately when it happened. Well luckily I have a code reader that stays in the OBDII port at all times (the speedo and tach went out on my last truck , an '08 Z71 I bought new, a couple of times so I bought a code reader that shows live data and used that for the speedo and tach).

I ran the full system diagnostic on it before I shut the truck off and had the following codes.

----Confirmed Trouble Codes Scan Report----
3 Confirmed Trouble Codes:
1. P25A2
Brake System Control Module Requested MIL Illumination
2. P0606
Control Module Processor
3. C0021

----Pending Trouble Codes Scan Report----
3 Pending Trouble Codes:
1. P25A2

2. P0606

3. C0021
Brake Booster Performance

----Permanent Trouble Codes Scan Report----
2 Permanent Trouble Codes:
1. P0606
Control Module Processor
2. C0021

Brake Booster Performance

I shut the truck off and restarted and got all of the same errors so I ran it again and got 3 confirmed codes, 3 pending codes, 2 permanent codes, 2 power steering control module codes, 2 transfer case control module codes, 10 Electronic Brake Control Module Codes and 2 Engine Control Module Codes.

The brakes seemed normal the third time I restarted the truck and I drove it 45 minutes home like I was driving on black ice. Everyone behind me loved me by the way......

I am about 5 hours from home on a business trip but luckily I was able to get into a local dealer and they reprogrammed the BSCM the next morning and sent me on my way telling me not to use the app because it is known to cause issues. They also gave me the bulletin that is posted earlier in this thread as well basically stating that they are aware of the problem and that the app "may" cause an issue.

I have had so many issues with this truck and it was in the shop almost all of December. I'll list all of the issues below for your reading pleasure.

1. When using the auto-up feature on the front windows they go halfway up and then back down. (Still not fixed because dealership can't duplicate but I have video of it doing it)

2. Right turn signal stopped working and wouldn't auto cancel after turning (took 5 weeks to get the part to fix that after they said it wasn't broken initially)

3. The stereo was playing the FM radio at the same time as music being played over bluetooth or apple carplay. (Supposedly fixed with software update)

4. Speakers would sometimes not work in the truck at all for anything including OnStar (Supposedly fixed with software update)

5. Infotainment system shuts off at random times giving a black screen with no sound and will not turn back on for 5-10 minutes if at all. (Has NOT been fixed yet)

6. Has been in the shop TWICE for water leaking into the cab. (Rear window has been resealed twice and it is still not fixed and going back a third time on Monday).

7. I received a flashing Check Engine Light about two weeks after I bought the truck. The codes I pulled showed a random/multiple cylinder misfire. The shop said no codes were showing and did nothing about it. (Fixed?)

8. Sound from front brakes the other day while moving the truck in my brothers yard (before the brake system failure). The sound is difficult to describe almost like a "whirring elephant"? I dunno. (Couldn't be duplicated by dealer when they fixed the Brake System Failure issue)

I have asked GM to start the buyback/replacement process but I am  hesitant to follow through because it seems like this truck has had just about every commonly known issue go wrong with it and I don't want a "new" truck that I have to go through these problems again with.

I tried to upload the PDF's of the codes but it wouldn't let me. If anyone can help with that let me know.

Im in a similar boat. Several major repairs and hesitant to push for buyback when several things are fixed and appear to have resolved issues. I have the feeling Id go through this all over with a new vehicle. Has anyone negotiated warranty extension or other compensation with GM customer service instead of buy back?

First all, ensure the dealership performs the TSB PIT 5728B which will fix the problem you experienced with the brakes. Second, become familiar with the Lemon Laws of your state and get the name of a good Lemon Law Lawyer. For example Steve Lehto in Michigan is a very good lawyer for Lemons. [Has a youtube channel also]. Keep all your paperwork, documentation, any communications with the dealership, GM etc. If you do not have a OBD reader, get one allowing you to read the codes faster before they reset or disappear. This will allow you to show them to the dealer or keep for a record. The dealership may still not do anything if they cannot read them but you have the codes. There are many owners that have had no problems with their vehicles. So getting a replacement vehicle may be your best bet.

I’m still without my truck after almost a month. I don’t feel it’s incumbent upon me to have to pay the $500+ a month for a truck that spent the month at the dealership.

Has anyone had any luck pursuing this avenue of getting GM to eat a payment?

You don't need to hire a lemon law lawyer. In the book in the glove box it explains everything you need to do to pursue a lemon law case in your state. I will tell you it is long, frustrating, and more frustrating but hopefully worth it for you in the end.  Most states require at least 30 days in the shop with 4 attempts to fix as well as a final repair attempt.

Start by filing a case with the BBB.

Send a certified letter to GM with:

FINAL REPAIR NOTICE (This statement is very important!!)

Date

Name

Address

Phone

Vin #

detail every time it has been in for service, what has been done, and how long each time you have been without the truck.

What you would like as an outcome (buy back or exchange for something else)

Signature with Date again

Keep copies of everything! Make a file and buckle up you're in for a long ride!

I have spent hours and hours and hours on this. GM will assign a rep who will ask for your patience and act like he is on your side. I am currently in the final repair attempt stage ugh I feel like this is going to drag on FOREVER!
