Since I crossed about 1500 miles in my TB, I started smelling something bad when sitting at a stop.  I checked underneath and found oil residue on the left front lower control arm and on the frame right above it.  I traced the oil to the front diff breather line. It’s blowing out quite a bit of oil.  I took it in to the dealer to get it looked at as well as 2 recalls.  Dealer says that the oil blowing out and the subsequent smell is normal.  Anyone else having this issue?  It’s been almost 500 miles of having to smell gear oil...Thanks.

I have not had this issue at all.  I have a Trail Boss as well with 10k miles already.

If its venting to the point of spraying fluid, there may be an issue with the line, perhaps its kinked?  Which would allow some pressure to build and then expel fluid from either the vent or an axle seal.

Sounds like either like stated above, the vent tube is kinked or they overfilled it from the factory and it is venting.  Either way, it shouldn't be coming out the vent.  My 2002 vent line has some residue like oil vapor but that is it.  It also has 186k on it.

It’s back to the dealer I go then.  It’s embarrassing how bad it smells inside and outside the truck, especially for a brand new one.

Almost 4 months later and the issue is not resolved.   The leak was fixed but the oil soaked into the frame undercoating because the undercoating wasn't cured yet (per the dealership)  So I'm stuck with a truck that stinks.  The dealership has been very helpful in trying to remedy it but nothing has seemed to work.  GM says that the truck is "working as designed" so they don't want to do anything.  It really sucks to have a truck that I can't park in my garage or my shop because it'll stink it up and my wife refuses to drive it as well.  Any suggestions?  Lemon law?  Gm customer assistance said to take it to another dealership. The previous dealer didn't get paid for the work they did so i don't want to do that.  They also said to take it to a third party (independent) shop.  So I would have to pay for the repairs if repairs are possible.  Fun times.  Looks like this may be my 10th and last new GM product.

Not sure what they've done for cleaning but I'd steam clean the frame when the gear oil got on it and then use some of the frame coating and brush it on, hopefully it will seal the smells.

I had a brand new 2.7 turbo 4x4 loaner for a week that smelled like gear oil bad from the engine when warm. It was very strong, you could smell it from 5 feet away from the truck. Probably same issue. Could not smell it inside the truck though.
