I agree. My subs ride fine and can use them like a truck. Which I do, Rough pasture roads, hunting fishing and towing. I find the Ford IRS versions to be mushy and a lot of lean. Also top heavy. I do not think IRS will be that great a deal except in marketing and price. May even hurt the body lean handling.

 

Where GM went side ways on the Subs is losing the 8 ft of flat floor load space with the '07 model change. I have keep my '90 sub just for that reason. And it still rides/handles with more stability than my '09 Sierra CC 4x4, z71. I'll be looking at the new ones but hope they have the 8 ft of flat load space.

Nope.

 

Still had a regular rear axle but with coil springs and a factory 4 link setup.

The 2500 Avalanche was built on exactly the same chassis as the 2500 Suburban but only available with the 8.1

 

They were beasts.

Negative.

Did have a similar setup to todays Ram 1500 though.

My '05 Avalanche Rode like a dream. I miss that truck.

Then again it came from the factory with Bilsteins and not the sub-par Ranchos of todays K2 and T1 trucks.

Hands down the best GM vehicle/truck or any other I had owned.

It was great riding, reliable. Only problems I had were the steering wheel button lights burning out on a couple of controls.

And transmission at about 40k fixed under warranty. Partly my fault for towing a Skid Steer 

And that thing seemed like it would turn on a dime and easy to park.

I wish GM would bring them alive again.

Problem is now with every truck basically being a CCSB, they're redundant. Back in the 2000s when most trucks were extended cab they made sense.

The Mid-gate is what brought the Avalanche to life.

No CCSB pickup today can touch the capability of the Avalanche with it's mid-gate.

Dodge copied the Avalanche designed side bed pockets.

The Avalanche shared platforms with the Suburban.

Nothing. The average American will trade in for a new SUV that is more expensive and just take a 8-10 year loan to free up some gas money.

I like the pre-07 subs (my GMC was called a sub too) better than the Avalanche. . 8 ft of very flat floor, more head room and no leaks. Still have my 90, just for that reason.

My 05 Avalanche was the Best GM vehicle i have ever owned.

Same platform as the suburban, but had a bed instead of 3rd row seats.

More of a modern RAM like rear end suspension setup. Turned on a dime.

I wish GM would introduce a new version of it.
