8’ beds on a 2500 or 3500

I’m looking for a 2500 or 3500 crew cab 4x4 with an 8’ bed. Looking through Autotrader it’s not easy to figure out which bed is on any truck. Any ideas how many crew cabs came with an 8’ bed? And what trim levels?

If you use cargurus.com you can choose cab configuration trim level, and bed length short reg long 8 foot bed is long 6.5 is reg 5.5 is short. Problem with all these sites is the person entering the info at the stealership they get lazy or don’t know or don’t care when entering the info so you also have to check the unknown ones to see if there’s ones that match your criteria.

I am guessing the 8' bed is available on all versions of the 2500 and 3500. I find that all three gm bed sizes can be identified by a picture of the left side of the truck. The position of the gas filler door in relation to the rest of the box is how I determine the size.

If you have the 'code' for the model, like CK35943 --

35 is 3500, 25 is 2500

9 is 8 foot (long), 7 is 6.5 ft (standard) and 5 is the 5'10" (short - and only available on 1500 crew cab)

43 is crew cab, 53 is double cab (extended cab on older trucks) and 03 is a regular cab

first letter T is gms, C is chev

2nd letter K is 4wd, C is 2wd

Only trim levels that don’t have and 8’ bed option is the 2500 Denali’s and High Country’s. Those 2 are 6’-6” beds only.

Like Donstar said the easiest way it to look at a picture of the drivers side bed, when you see a 3 ft space there its a long bed if it looks like 2 foot or so its a short bed. This is the biggest pain to figure out some dealerships try to be artistic with the pictures and never give a good shot of this. I can tell you from experience you will not find may 2500 lwb unless you want a WT, you will have better luck in 3500 with srw or drw.

Unless things changed if it's a dually it's got an 8ft bed. Otherwise trying to decipher the photos and hoping they're actually of the truck listed is the way to figure out if it's got a good bed on it. Sadly people's driving skills keep declining so having an 8 footer is "too hard" to drive lol. Don't get me wrong, there are probably valid reasons to get something other than a 8 footer, you'll just never convince me. Pretty much why I think I'll be sticking with a dually on my next truck.

If you only drive on roads, fields or construction sites, its fine. But try to park that boat in any urban parking stall and you'll realize the extra long bed isn't always a benefit. If you like backing into spots or parking in the far back corner of every lot, then no problem. Otherwise you're that guy hanging out into the drive aisle with one back tire into the next spot over.

I back in almost exclusively because my turning radius makes it hard to get in a spot forward. I wouldn't want 2.5 more feet back there.

I don't know what you're talking about I fit perfectly fine! Stupid courthouse requiring everyone to pull in so they can drive by and scan plates..

On a serious note yeah I drive on roads. I avoid the city like the plague as well as park way out in parking lots. Yes it's easier, but more importantly I avoid people this way, people suck. I see too many people slam shopping carts and doors into other people's cars. I don't really know how to pull forward as 99% of my parking is back in, that's just how I was taught to drive. A crew cab 2500HD with the short bed fits in compact only spots just fine btw :-)

I've done literal 15+ point turns to get out of dead end parking lots. They're fun and challenging lol

Thats a good picture. It reminds me of when I tried to park in a ramp in downtown Minneapolis going to a football game. I was centered in my spot, cars on either side were in their spots. And I could barely open my door to get out. That's just how small the spots were. I had to back in, there was no possible way to pull forward into that spot.

It's sad, I don't mind getting jury duty, what pisses me off is having to pull into a spot just so I don't get fined for making the deputy get out of their car to scan my plate. Years ago my buddies and I would purposefully try block each other in parking spots. Parking as close as we possibly could w/o hitting each other so we were forced to wait for the other(s) to leave. That got me even better at fitting in places I shouldn't be parking in. I also always won that "game" since all I had to do was be able to open the door enough to reach in and tap the window crank on my '73 c10. Then I'd close the door and just push the window down and crawl in through the window :-D

Oh and here's the front end from that picture. If someone wants/needs the 8ft bed they'll make it work somehow.

I've had my last short bed truck!!! I will not own anything but a long bed truck. Yes it can be a pain to get around and other people are nondrivers and could not get out of their own ways most of the time, so I back into spots, park in the back forty and when forced to due to stupid parking garages I will leave the nose the on the pig sticking out hoping some one decides to hit the thing!!! Hated the Ranch Hand when I got the truck but it has grown on me so I'll just let the nondrivers take their chances with it. :jester;

Exactly!! That's one of the only reasons I consider pulling into spots is just to see if I can "catch" a car while I'm gone with my hitch. Then again I want new bumpers so someone hitting my front end will get me to that goal quicker.
