On my 2017 Silverado 2500HD I can not turn off my lights unless I am parked. Is this something new because I had no problem in my 2011 Silverado 1500 even while I was driving. Is this by chance a new safety feature?

Sounds like you have a Canadian vehicle. I am assuming when you say lights that it is your DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) that you are referencing. On vehicles first sold in Canada the DRLs can only be turned off when in Park. Where was your truck first sold?

yes, my truck was first sold in Canada. And the lights I am talking about are the low beam headlight. I was not sure if my truck had DRL's there were no lights on during the day light hours. However, I am having another problem with my low beams because I installed HID's and during day light hours my low beams are flickering even though I installed a wiring harness and capacitors with it.

Just a note... the DRLs are actually your low beam headlights running at a reduced level. They are not a separate lamp like the older trucks use to have.

Sorry I cannot provide any input on your HID issue, not familiar with them.

Oh, ok. So do you know how to disable the DRL's or how to fix not being able to turn off my lights?

I have read other posts on this forum questioning how to disable the DRLs and I have never seen an answer other than a software change to the module controlling them (BCM?). I wonder if your problem has something to do with the DRLs running at a reduced power level. However, like I said I have no knowledge or experience messing with them. Surely someone on the forum will chime in.

I don’t know on these newer trucks, but the older ones you had to get a new switch from a US truck and have your BCM reprogrammed. The hard part is getting the right programming. You have to know someone that understands what you are trying to do and knows or is willing to find the right programming for you.

Just dropped of the truck yesterday at the dealer and one of the things they had to verify was that my truck was switched from Canadian over to American to even see if my warranty was usable. (and they said it was) So, we'll see.
