Apple carplay head unit compatability

Should I worry that if I buy an aftermarket head unit to upgrade the head unit in my 2015 Silverado to an Apple CarPlay compatible unit that I will lose any functionality whatsoever, such as steering wheel controls? I’d love to hear from someone who did this and their experience, pros and cons. Thank you!

Typically there is a recommended module that goes with the new wiring harness that lets you retain steering wheel controls/onstar/etc.

Just do the 2.5 hmi and radio module swap. Its cheaper and you wont have the horrible looking aftermarket head unit. I saw an alpine unit, its terrible imo.

Im getting my modules back on tuesday. Then ill have android auto, 2019 map, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Head over to Crutchfield.com and look there.  They will tell you what you will need to install whatever head units they offer as well as what, if any, functionality you will lose doing so.
