I just purchased a 2014 Silverado WT with 5.3 4WD towing package. The build sheet as well as spare are 17 inch wheel and tire. The old rims were steel and rusted, they put on some really nice alloy rims that are 18 inch and tires that look almost new. Out of all the things I checked, crawled under truck, went through all fluids- I never checked if tire size were factory. The truck still has 10 months warranty and only 49,000 miles.

With the bigger tire, I guessing I am going faster than speed monitor says. Then wonder if this will be an issue with drive train or remaining factory warranty.

You didn't say what size tires are on the 18in rims though.

A simple search on say a website like tire rack would have told if the factory 17's have the same tire diameter as the 18's it has now.

For example, the smaller 17in tire size are right around a 31 to 31.5in tall tire. The larger 17in tire are roughly 31.5 to 31.8 depending on brand.

The factory 18's are a 31.5 to 31.9in tall tire, again depending on brand.

So there is almost no difference what so ever, nothing is going to change the speedo if the tires are normal sized. Only if the 18in tires are over sized, then would it throw the speedo off.

What size tire is on it? 265-65-R18 should be damn near the same size as the 17s with tires that came off. They'll be a little bigger but I doubt it matters much.

Turn on your phone's GPS and see what speed you get. Compare to the speedometer.

I will find out and post, sorry I should have wrote that down.  Had it throwing codes P0172 and P0175 so took it back for the Chevy dealer to figure out why running rich.  Had the truck less than 24 hours.    Hopefully they will fix it without charging.  Then when I got home, the hot water heater is going out.  Been a great day!

Need to find one of those radar signs that show your speed in construction zones.   Also, will try my Garmin out and see what it says, good idea.

On the drive train they assure me that the factory warranty is still good.

Well just got truck back and they put a new fuel pump on, said that was causing the P0172 and P0175- took them a week.  Oh well they didn't charge me for it.

On that tire size, I think I am fine and speedometer will be accurate.  Original tire size is P265 70 R17  what they put on is P265 65 R18.   Below is picture from a web site (https://tiresize.com/calculator/)

Hopefully this Silverado will do as well as the old 1996 Dodge 1500.

Those are functionally equivalent and standard sizes for that truck.  Did the dealer replace the door sticker (Tire and Load Information)?  They should have and if they did, they would have also downloaded that information into the truck's computer systems for air pressure and ABS performance.

Most all of the rim sizes offered on a K2 truck have roughly the same outside DIA tire regardless of 17" or 22" wheels... I have slightly oversized tires on my truck 275/65R18 and I never even gave it a thought regarding odometer etc...

I went and checked, they didn't change the sticker or give me any information.  That shouldn't surprise me as when I mention the tires, they just said no problems all was the same, so I checked what I could myself.

They haven't been very good, I am disappointed as everyone told me how great they were.  They are a nice bunch of folks, but seem a bit slow and reckless?  Took a week to fix the codes with new fuel pump, drain transmission and replace with new filter (not a flush), check front and rear diff as well as transfer case.  Then I got it home today and looked in bed of truck, there was the splash plate that goes under the front with 6 bolts rolling around.   I called them and they said they would put it back on and I said great.  Then I decided I didn't want to drive 58 miles round trip for 10 minutes work and just did it myself.   My wife can't believe I have been so calm and nice to the dealership, I usually get pissed on stuff like this.

The wheels and tires they put on are pretty much gonna act the same.

I parked next to a 2017 with 20s at work today with mine (18s on stock size tires) and our trucks were at the same height.

You'll be fine.

So you have an upgraded wet of wheels/tires?  What's the problem?

Why would you have them check the diff/x-fer case fluids and not change them?

All speedometers are off by some percentage, and their accuracy changes as tires wear down.  You're fine.

Actually happy that it has new wheels and tires, just don't want to get caught speeding as I go over the limit 5 mph all the time anyway.   And it don't look like that will be a problem.  They put some nice wheels on it, prior to that they were steel wheels.   Must have been original tires and rusty rims, the guy who had the truck is a big farmer.

No worries.  Those wheels and tires are the same diameter as the factory originals, for GM purposes.  Nothing needs to be reprogrammed, except for possibly re-learning of the TPMS sensors.

Good luck with that vehicle, especially if it was purchased at "Ed Bozarth#1" Chevrolet.  If it was, keep on them until you're satisfied, but keep one hand on your wallet at all times.  I drive 105 miles to another dealer to avoid doing any more business with them.

No offense to anyone that refers to "WHEELS" as "RIMS", but Technically speaking a "RIM" is part of a "WHEEL"

When I hear "RIM", a basketball "RIM" comes to mind.

In the automotive world, tires are mounted on "WHEELS"  :flag:

No, went to Osage City, like I said nice folks there but think they may be short staffed, took awhile to get it back and then that part left off.   Still would rather deal with them than Ed Bozart.   I believe the Osage City guys tell the truth and mean well, not sure about Ed?  They use to have a super parts guy at Ed's but been a decade since I been there for parts, bet he gone.
