Little black cable on column shifting mechanism

Trying to change out the column shifting mech. On a 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 and have it all off except havent been able to get the small black cable loose and dont wanna tear it apart anymore if I dont need to. Can any give me instructions on how to get that off or any general tips on changing the mechanism in general. Thanks in advance

There is a lock in clip wrapped around it. It wraps down and then up a bit. Use a pick to lightly pull the clip down about a 1/16-1/8 inch. The clip should then slide away from the housing.
