Shift indicator?

2005 1500 5.3L. For some reason when I start the truck the indicator is working fine. But once i hit the brakes it goes away when in P R N. Its still shows in D 3 2 1. Once I turn the truck off and turn the key on it comes back to working again Any ideas?

maybe a wiring problem?  harness for the IP is in the same area as the brake pedal, so maybe it's getting pinched/shorted when you hit it, and the IP only resets by turning the truck off and on again.
