Barry Engle, who became GM's president of the Americas on April 1, played down declining Silverado sales as a "temporary phenomenon" that will be corrected with more capacity and a normalization of production.

"Given our limited availability, we deliberately launched with a really high mix in trims," Engle told Automotive News this month. "But as we get broader availability and get the full portfolio out there, we'll be just fine."

Broader availability includes increasing annual capacity of the pickups by 60,000 — 40,000 for the heavy-duty models and 20,000 for the 1500s.

The increased capacity will aid plans to roughly double production of the Silverado Trail Boss, an off-road-inspired trim, to more than 20 percent of the mix, Engle said. The increase is a result of the brand's national dealership council saying retailers needed more inventory of the models."We're selling every one of those we can make, and the real demand for that thing is probably double what we thought it would be and what we capacitized at," he said. "The dealers are just screaming for more."

I have a feeling by the end of the year, Chevy's #s will be way up.  Time will tell.  No Doubt the the Trail Boss trucks are beautiful; it will likely be my next truck if I opt for a 4X4.  I am seeing more and more T1s on the road, but definitely still lacking around here in So Cal.  This may be one of the slowest new model launches I have seen (or at least payed attention to).

GM has been out of touch with buyers for a while. They seem to think everyone wants an asphalt cowboy truck stuffed with tech. All the while Ford is making hand over fist selling Raptors for 30k+ markup over MSRP. The ZR2 was/is a good attempt, but GM insists on prohibiting larger tires on their trucks. I hope this Trail Boss is the beginning of good things to come!

Gimme a ZR2 TB Silverado 6.2L with front and rear lockers, more armor (diff and fuel tank skid to start), off-road bumpers, fox (or any reputable brand) dampers, power folding mirrors (important since this truck is so wide), cameras (another helpful feature).

GM can take my money again.

yeah a ZR2 Silverado would be something else. No problem shelling out my hard earned money for something like that

I've been looking at Trail Boss's recently.  The Custom's are going fast, some already sold before they even hit the lot.  The LT Trail Boss's on the hand from what I've been seeing have not been moving nearly as fast; however, dealers haven't exactly been willing to deal on them either.

It boggles my mind GM doesn't make an honest to goodness Raptor competitor. The Trail Boss and AT4 are good, but they're not in the same league. All the ingredients are there, and the Raptor has been making money unchallanged hand-over-fist for almost a decade now.

Personally I think they would have great success with a fully outfitted “Raptor” Colorado; fiberglass fenders, AT LEAST 33” (with room for 35” to fit), 5.3 if it will fit, supercharged 3.6 if not, 10 speed. That’s it. Let buyers outfit it from there. The Full size can’t go certain places, while this smaller package could go thru most trails. This combo would sell out.  I just don’t know what market the current ZR2 is competitive in with the release of the Gladiator. It has solid axles, higher row rating, bigger tires (35” fit easily), if optioned right a substantially higher payload.
