Replacing 2.0 HMI module with 2.5 HMI module to add CarPlay/Android Auto to 2015 Yukon

Recommended Posts

I’ve been reading up on how to upgrade my infotainment center to include Apple CarPlay, but I’m wondering if any of you can tell me the exact parts I need to purchase. I have a 2015 Yukon. I know I need the IO6 2.5 HMI module, but I’m not sure what part number. I have found multiple different ones on eBay that look just like what I need, but they each have different part numbers. I’m not sure if they are all interchangeable. Also, do I need a new radio module and USB port for this to work?

If u want Apple car play u need it from a late 2015 radio module and depend if your vehicle is Bose equipped, and hmi2.5 depends if u want navigation or not and a USB port switch, sellin two set of hmi2.5 with navigation and radio module “Bose equipped” and 8in screen with digital AC buttons. One set from a 2016 and another from a 2018 even have a Denali Cluster with this set in Chevy blue

I have a screen that rises. I noticed this screen is stationary. Does that make a difference in either of the modules?

Nope you just need both the modules and programming :)

      Hello anyone/everyone,
As mentioned in the title, i would like to perform a front seat swap in my 2007 Chevy Tahoe with some seats out of a 2015 Yukon.  What I’m really looking for if there happens to be a bracket out there that already exists so I can be lazy and not have to build one. Thanks In advance

New to this forum, so please excuse my ignorance if this has already been answered. I looked to see if there were answers elsewhere, but haven't found them to all of my questions. I recently purchased a 2015 Suburban LTZ and would like to add CarPlay primarily. My questions are:
      1. My truck was built 3/24/15. I have seen conflicting reports that I can just replace the HMI module (upgrade from 2.0 to 2.5) vs also having to replace the box under the center console. There was some discussion that later build dates can get away with not replacing the other module. My truck does have the Text option on the MyLink screen if that helps any. Are there particular part numbers I need to retain use of the Rear seat entertainment system or do all the boxes work with it too?
      2. Since new modules require programming is this something the dealer can do without a lot of hassle (i.e. I am adding a non-original part number to my truck. are they going to give me crap about it)? Also, are there aftermarket tools that I can use to do this? I don't have anything like that, but if I have to go pay the dealer $150 for them to program my box, I would consider just buying a scan tool system for future use
      3. As I mentioned, my truck has the rear seat entertainment system. Are there options for adding HDMI or other inputs for this system? Not sure my family will ever use it in its current config (we do almost all streaming these days). i have seen screen mirroring solutions, but my understanding is they only allow mirroring on the dash screen and not the RSE screens. Any options there?
      Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can anyone tell me if the new 2020 (or older) YukonXL, does the Apple Carplay cast Google Maps onto the screen?  I've read that it only plays with Apple Maps.  thx

I downloaded Apple IOS 13 beta, the good news CarPlay for Spotify is much improved it now shows album covers, kind of cool. The bad news even with the 805 update and IOS 13 it still turns down the ringer to zero if you have adjust with buttons turned on. It also still changes the volume control. I now wonder if this is a GM problem or an Apple problem. I hope someone fixes it, I just almost missed a very important call.

      Hello All,
I just bought 2017 sierra with the 7 inch touchscreen that advertisted as compatible with apple Carplay and Android auto. For whatever reason myself, the dealer, and the GM infotainment support can't figure out why it isn't working with apple. We can get the radio to work with Android Auto and connects right away as it should so I think that confirms that the USB port is not faulty and is correctly transferring data. I am using an Iphone 8 IOS ver 12.4 with the factory cable in good condition(no fraying of the cable) and have confirmed that the phone cable combination works in my girlfriends 2017 Chevy Cruze. We have also tried it with different cable combinations and different IPhones.
Occasionally when an Iphone is plugged into it a message will appear on the radio saying "Playback Source is not available" and I have attached a picture of the message.
Just a quick rundown of things I have tried to help with troubleshooting:
Made sure that the Apple Carplay is on in the settings of the radio. Double checked that "press home for Siri is enabled" Double checked that the screen time settings weren't preventing carplay from working forgot phone in bluetooth settings and re-paired it. factory reset of radio tried different Iphones (IPhone 6, IPhone 8, IPhone XR, IPhone XS) tried different cables (and confirmed they all worked in the 2017 Chevy Cruze) Made sure the phones worked with Apple Carplay in the 2017 Cruze. tried all USB ports in the truck.
      Appreciate all the help
