For you Firefighters out there

Recently I joined the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department in Cypress, Texas (just outside Houston). Currently I am in the new cadet class learning everything I can about fighting fire, performing rescues, and doing everything that a fire fighter does.

Anyway, I have noticed that there are several fire fighters on this board and was wondering what everyone was running as far as lights and such go on their personal vehicles. I am going to be putting a lightbar, siren, radio, and strobes on my 2001 Tahoe in about a year and was looking for ideas. Also, where can I go to get the best deal on this type of equipment? Any personal experience with particular brands, models, etc? Any advice?

Please post pics if you've got them.

Thanks,

B.J.

I am also a volunteer firefighter, going through an in-house training in FireFighter 1 program right now and then we do FF 2. I live pretty close to the station, so I can easily respond if paged. I am a member of another Chevy forum and there is a memebr there who has some cool lights, just click on the link.

I used to have my 97 decked out

strobes in tails, traffic backer, wig wag headlights, front turn signals, front grill, strobes in rear window-front window .

I also had to carry a id card stating i was a firefighter and had to be signed by both fire and police chief .

But realized why the hell do I need them if i live around the block from the station and im usually there to take out a rig , so the trucks lighting got slowly parted out to fellow members of my dept.

My mom works for the health dept and she has a magnet red strobe and a nice door magnet that says health department staff on official business.

Ill get some pics tonight.

There are the people at my station (including the captain) that don't really see a need for lights on personal vehicles. But most of them live right behind the station as well. I live on the other side of the subdivision and will more than likely have to respond in my personal vehicle because I don't think I will be able to make it to the station before they leave in the engine. So, for that reason, I need the lights and sirens on my truck.

I know some areas you cannot use siren tones on personal vehicles they have an electronic air horn substitute (dont know if your area is like that ) .

as far as the lights i say you should be ok with department permission :D

As far as brands im kinda partial to whelen myself
