Yeah, GM dealers will not rent non-gm cars period, full stop

lol.. find another dealer.  I've usually received a "fleet" vehicle while mine was being worked on, but when they've rented one for me, it's whatever Enterprise had to offer..

Find another dealer? I really appreciate the advice but I'm not shopping dealerships for a rental car policy. Thanks again

I'm just saying that dealerships are a commodity that separates their selves by their customer service.

it's not a big deal if you need a car for 4 hours while they're running routine service, but, we had a Hyundai Santa Fe that the dealership had for 7 weeks rebuilding the engine and the entire thing cost me $0.  The dealership even brought us the rental/loaner at work and took our vehicle for the service.  Same family of dealerships here sell (GMC/Buick/Cheverolet/Hyundai/Mazda/VW/Acura/Mazerati/Kia/Porsche/Volvo) and every location is run exactly the same. customer always first.

It's all a matter of what you're willing to pay for, hell would freeze over before I paid for a rental car while a dealership has my vehicle. My time is just too valuable to deal with bullshit like that.

It so happens I am going back to the dealership tomorrow to have several issues fixed (left front window going down on its own, check engine light on, and recent brake failure where I had to really push the pedal to get it to stop) along with recall notices and an oil change.

The last two times, they had loaner cars so I was unable to see if the policy was in effect. It was just that one time, and they were indeed out of loaner cars that day.

GM has a dealer loaner program.  Its similar to 'Demo" car program and a new cars with low miles.  Local dealer here has small Buick and GMC suvs for loaners.  They put their website (big decal) in the back window so you know it, neighbor has one for a week...

Part of the problem right now is the shortage of new vehicles, so dealers have fewer demos/loaners.  Same with rental car companies.

Running in to that problem right now myself, and it’s every dealer I called yesterday.  Luckily I have my Camaro to drive, just causes a few small inconveniences for me but aware most folks don’t have an extra car sitting around (question myself on that quite often).

My relatives company has a new GMC HD work van on order as they can't find a new one anywhere so they tried to rent a HD van in the meantime and all the rental companies say the, UPS, Fedex etc has rented them all and they have nothing.

No question at all...

I always have 3 vehicles at my disposal.

I don’t ask for a loner. I never have less than 2 vehicles. Usually have more. Insurance hassles is my reason. I use to fly to some of my training job sites before my wife could travel with me. Kids still at home. The one time I buy the rental car insurance a valet wrecks the car. I know most personal insurance has a rider for that. Still a potential hassle. I wouldn’t borrow a vehicle either. I only lend to responsible persons. Too much potential hassle.

I'm at the dealership right now.. yeah, they are out of cars.. not only that, so is Hertz. At least there's complimentary coffee and I'm a huge coffee drinker so that pans out.

I have only one car because I live near the beach where parking is at a premium. I'm already pushing it with a big assed truck, but I love driving trucks so much so this is clearly not going to change.

Insurance isn't even a hassle, they don't ask for it or make it difficult. Unlike the Benz dealership when I had a Benz, it was always a pain! My credit card, a Sapphire, offers PRIMARY car insurance, not secondary unlike the other cheaper Gold and Platinum credit cards.

Yes, I dealt with this a few months ago. Turned in my truck for service, was shuttled to Enterprise, and they only had a Hyundai. They let me take it and said they would bring me a GM vehicle to swap with it as soon as one was available. The service didn't take that long, so they never swapped it.
