What engines are compatible with 2008 Chev 1500 5.3 Flex Fuel

Recommended Posts

You can plug in your info at car-part.com and it will give you a list of junkyards that have one and their distance from you.  I use this to find out what years are interchangeable for parts all the time

Engines are going to labeled with a "code".

You could use either the LY5 or LC9 engine, even a LMG engine would work. All that is required is that it is a 5.3 with active fuel management/Displacement on demand. You must find an engine from 2007.5 to 2009. The 2010+ engines use VVT (variable valve timing) which was not available on the older engines.

It can be an iron engine block or aluminum, as that makes zero difference at whether or not it will fit. Most engines come just as the long block with some coming complete. If the engine sourced in a non-flex fuel engine, you would be required to use the fuel system (fuel injectors) from your current engine. The rest is all the same from intake manifold to oil pan.
