Think I’m over GM.

Recommended Posts

I have had a Chevy or gmc Truck my whole life, but I think I might be switching. I got in a wreck/hit a deer two weeks ago and I called to check in on my truck to see when it will be done and they said “we can’t get the parts from gm and have no eta when they will have them or when I’m truck will be fixed” I even took to the Chevy dealership I got it from. It’s just frustrating.

try another brand because you want to try another look/interior or engine options . Nothing wrong with that .  Parts not being available could happen to any manufacture. And believe me I aint no GM fan boy even though i;m on my 5th GM truck .

My good pal got into an 80 car pile up during white out conditions. 2016 ram 1/2 ton diesel (beautiful truck by the way) 7 weeks ago. Body shop is still waiting for some OEM parts to become available.

My mother backed her new Toyota RAV 4 into a post. Damage was minimal, but parts were 5 weeks back-ordered.

Not just a GM problem; they all suck.

its because of the UAW going on strike,  they can't get parts that aren't being made

Yes I know the strike was settled, but it takes a while to get things going again,  I have a good friend that is a service writer at the local dealer, he said a lot of parts that aren't replaced a lot are on a 3 to 6 month back order

As one who spent many years in 'metal bending' autoparts manufacturing I can assure you it doesn't take months.

They all still run 'just in time' inventory, so stuff starts to move as soon as assembly begins.

1000's of trucks every day, means 1000's of parts everyday.

Not that difficult to also feed some to the supply chain system.

Any place I worked, supply of 'crash parts' was as important to GM as supply of parts to the assembly plants.

They way every manufacturer is talking electric I don't think many of us on this website will have to worry in 10 to 15 years. All of them will be electric pieces of crap.

Another generation of Silverado may be all us gearheads are going to get wilh internal combustion engines before we all become robotic socialists and become assimilated. lol

Especially if you vote for Bernie!

Even if electric vehicles become common, there will still be a need for 'crash' parts.

PER MY DEALER WHO IS ALSO MY COUSIN: The strike got the parts builders behind and they are using all the parts to build the new ones. It's not just GM, is't all of them. Now if your vehicle is an older model, I'm not sure why.
