Chrome fascia strips removed from factory running boards

Recommended Posts

Not much of a "Mod", but I like it!

Spent a little time with the HC yesterday. I'm an“Old School Chrome Guy” but even though I am, I still did not like the chrome fascia strips on the factory retractable running-boards. To me it made the pickup look like it was hanging low in the middle, so yesterday I heated up the ol heat gun and removed them, and if I'd known how easy it was going to be, I would have done it right after buying it!

Here's a Before & After pic:

Nice!  Do you have a pic up close?  I have the same boards on my LTZ and I need an easy de-chrome win when I can get it.  I wish GM would understand people don't want layers of chrome everywhere.

Thanks. Is it the same matte, plastic finish and/or material as the mud flaps?  It looks to be the same.

It's the same texture as the tread portion of the running-boards.

you just heated up the full chrome piece and pulled it off?

I worked my way along the strip, heating a foot or so then carefully pulling/prying it loose. I used some fairly soft wedges to aid in pulling it loose.

eta: I removed both end caps from the running boards too.

Did you replace the end caps?

If'n not, is the extend to tire switch protected from gravel, snow, etc without?

The ends of the chrome strips are covered by the end caps and were put back on once the chrome strips were removed.

@RAYS B4Uwhen you removed the chrome, is there an exposed channel on the top and bottom where the chrome fascia edges were in? Any chance I could get a close up picture? TIA

Yes
