2014-15 to 2016-19 Front End Conversion

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I'm new to this forum so if I'm not in the correct section or have done something in the wrong, just point me in the right direction.

I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 and I've seen a few topics on here regarding a front end swap between the 14-15 body style and the 16-19 body style but none have really helped that much. I was hoping to get a new topic going for people wanting to do this in the future that contained more helpful information on the whole process. Now, I have done some research to see what would need to be done, and I've found that it in fact IS possible HOWEVER, if you want to do this, you have to replace the whole front end including bumper, grille, headlights, and hood. You can't just do it piece by piece because the lines wont match up. For those who have done this, is my though process correct and is it pretty much a seamless transition when swapping everything out? Meaning all bolt holes, etc. line up when switching a 14-15 front end with a 16-19 front end?

If anyone has done this swap, please share your process!

I’ve done it with the help from @Viktorrocks15 he did the installed, actually need all the parts to do at once otherwise it won’t work. Parts needed are hood, bumper, grill, grill support, header panel, bumper guard under bumper not sure what the part number is but got them from the Chevy dealer, 5gendyi headlight harness. Took about 2/3 hours from start to finish.

min missing the cowl plastic by wipers needa swap it out still nothing major, and still missing the radiator cover piece.

Really nice upgrade since I had kinda regretted not buying the newer body style, but now u cant even tell it’s a 2014

Awesome! Thanks for the pics too. Was everything pretty much plug and play? Could you also give a rough estimation for the prices of the parts direct from your Chevy dealer?

Thanks frankie

thats the harness if u gonna do the ltz headlights but if your doing the LT headlights it would be a different harness should be around the same price I think didn’t look the other harness up

So let me just make sure I have all of the correct parts listed for this conversion.

Hood, Grille, Inner Grille Support (is this part number 6 in the grille picture below?), Headlights (and wiring harness), and Front Bumper along with 2 guide brackets (left and right)?

Does that seem to sum it up for the parts?

Let me list all the parts needed just so if someone comes along this and wants to do it themselves, they are easily available. Please add or take off stuff if I got it wrong. The parts below are if you are buying these parts from GM Parts Direct. If you are wanting to do a trade or buy from someone who has a 2016-19 Model Year, some of the parts will be redundant such as the hood weather stripping and insulation, different trim packages on the grille headlight bezel color, etc.

Hood https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/auto-parts/2016/chevrolet/silverado-1500/ltz-trim/5-3l-v8-gas-engine/body-cat/hood-and-components-scat:

- At the link above, you will need Parts 1, 4, 5, and 6. This is the Hood Panel, Front Weather-Strip, Rear Weather-Strip, Hood Insulation Pad.

Grille https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/auto-parts/2016/chevrolet/silverado-1500/ltz-trim/5-3l-v8-gas-engine/body-cat/grille-and-components-scat:

- This all depends on which Grille you want to buy if buying from GM Parts Direct. But, you're going to need the grille, and the Inner Grille shown in the link above. If buying from GM Parts Direct, you will also need the Grille Emblems.

- You will also need the Front Panel Assembly which can be bought from this link: https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-parts/gm-panel-assembly-23461838/?c=Zz1ib2R5JnM9ZnJvbnQtcGFuZWxzJmk9R0gxNDAyMzUmcj0xJmE9Y2hldnJvbGV0Jm89c2lsdmVyYWRvLTE1MDAmeT0yMDE2JnQ9bHR6JmU9NS0zbC12OC1nYXM%3D

- The Front Panel Assembly parts you need are circled in the picture 2 posts above.

Headlights https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/auto-parts/2017/chevrolet/silverado-1500/ltz-trim/5-3l-v8-gas-engine/electrical-cat/headlamp-components-scat:

- Obviously 2 of these. You're also going to need the headlight harness if going with LTZ headlights which are LEDs. The link for the harness is: https://www.gen5diy.com/products/14-15-silverado-16-18-ltz-headlight-harness

- If not going with LTZ headlights, and instead going with LT headlights, you will need that corresponding harness as well. (I don't have a link for this)

Bumper:

- Now, this one is tricky because its easier to just buy this part off eBay or find an aftermarket bumper you like that fits 2016-2019 models. If you buy from GM Parts Direct, you're also going to have to buy all of the inner support braces for the bumper which can be seen at this link: https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/auto-parts/2017/chevrolet/silverado-1500/ltz-trim/5-3l-v8-gas-engine/body-cat/bumper-and-components-front-scat

- BUT, no matter which bumper you get, whether it be a 2016-19 OEM Bumper from someone on eBay, you buy the bumper and all the inner support brackets from GM Parts Direct, or find an aftermarket bumper you like, you are going to need to purchase part #13 from the diagram in the link above. These are the guide brackets for the 16-19 bumper (you're going to need to purchase the left and right guide brackets).

- ALSO, if you're going to be buying from GM Parts Direct, you will need the valence and filler panels which can be found here: https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/auto-parts/2017/chevrolet/silverado-1500/ltz-trim/5-3l-v8-gas-engine/body-cat/aero-ground-effects-and-body-kits-scat

@Frankielozano214 let me know if this is correct.

@Frankielozano214 let me know if this is correct.

Sounds about right bro, all my parts where used so my hood had everything, so did my bumper had all brackets, lower valance, fogs and the wiring.

hello gm-trucks commuinty i’m having issues with a smog readiness monitor not completing. any information on this issue would be greatly appreciated. my truck is a 2001 Chevy Silverado LS 1500 with a 5.3L v8 and it’s 4x2. all the readiness monitors complete except the secondary air system causing the truck to fail smog in california. i’ve heard the air pump turn on at cold starts and even replaced the passenger side check valve. also replaced the solenoid that sends vacuum. everything in the secondary air system seems to be operating properly but the monitor won’t complete. i’ve driven 100s of miles and done countless cold starts but no luck. even the smog referee said the system is working properly and i should just drive the truck more. anyone else experience this issue and what did you have to do to complete the monitor? there are no codes stored currently and the truck runs fine. thank you to anyone that helps

I have a 2022 trail boss lt that has about 6100 mile on it now. Bought it brand new in may 2022 and it seems like the drivers seat leans to the left towards the door. Almost feels like Im gonna fall out of it and no matter how I adjust it it seems the same. Visually it looks like it sits level and is fine. Is it possible something is broken inside like the frame? I would assume the frame would have to be sturdy. Is there any place that sell a better bottom cushion?

My l84 5.3 cracked some pistons now thinking of doing a light hone but wanted to know if it would even save the engine ? The scratches are pretty light my nail doesn’t get stuck but I do feel em. The pours on the other hand I’m not sure what could have caused those little things ?

I'm going to be mounting one of those 10.6cfm twin piston air compressors (maxi trac, morrflate, stop n go, thor) inside my cab for onboard air. My question is can I ground it to the body, should I run a bulk head and wire to the frame, or run it with the positive back to the bay and ground out on the frame there?
It has a 90Amp peak draw and I'll be running 6 AWG wire, it will be fused and run through a switch box to a 200a relay. I know in the past people will ground winches to the frame or body, but with all the computer stuff going on I've got this concern on the back of my head.

Hello all, My Sway bar was hitting my CV axle, as the title says. So I crawled under some trucks at the dealer to see what stock trucks are like and it turns out that the new TB/AT4's have longer end links then my 2020 TB. The new end link has a 3 inch rod vs the 1-3/4 inch OE part.

The part number for the longer end link is P/N:85590925
