Im trying to order a new bumper for a newer body style 2019 Silverado. However, I’m coming up with some problems when I do a part search. The part I need is a new front bumper. The first part number is 84219085 (link) . The description on this part in the link is, “Bumper & mounting, without park assist, 1st design, chrome.”
however, there is another part that is 84588809 (link) The exact same descriptor and picture. Except this part is listed as “second design“.
what in the world is the difference between “first design“ versus “second design”? Both of these bumpers are obviously for the new generation and not the Legacy truck, as those are listed on a separate part of the bumper pages and they look completely different than these.
I am at a loss here on which one to order. First design versus second design. What’s the difference?

We've certainly seen a lot of photos of the all new 2019 Silverado and Sierra. Photos of the interior and photos of the trim packages. Photos on-road and photos off-road. But what we have not seen yet is how the 2019 Silverado and Sierra's new T1XX platform looks mechanically under the surface. Until today.
GM-Trucks.com has obtained exclusive copies of parts diagrams for the next generation Silverado. From these drawings we can gleam just a little bit more about how the next generation trucks are different from their predecessors.
Set One: Front Suspension, Differential, Axle, and Driveshaft
Our first batch of drawings show us a few things, mainly the new T1XX front suspension setup (which is similar to the Colorado), a new HD-like front differential, a new rear axle with new yoke, and a new driveshaft setup.
Set Two: Front and Rear Brake Calipers
Our second batch of drawings show the new 2019 T1XX front and rear calipers (with electronic parking brake).
Set Three: Engine Blow Out, Dual Exhaust, Cold Air Factory Intake
And our third batch of drawings show what the new L87/L84 looks like blown apart (with individual cylinder deactivation instead of an AFM VLOM). We also see the new dual exhaust and brand new airbox design that draws cool air from the front of the vehicle instead of the side fender.
Thanks to our "GM deepthroat" for sending these files our way. Next week we head to Wyoming for our first drive of the 2019 Silverado while our 2019 Silverado LTZ is being shipped to our dealership from the factory.

General Motors has announced that design chief, Ed Welburn (left in above image), will retire July 1st after 44 years with GM. Welburn has been GM's design chief since 2005. Michael Simcoe has been selected to succeed Welburn. Simcoe is a 33-year veteran of GM and current vice president of GM International Design, based in Australia and Korea.
Mary Barra, GM chairman and CEO commented on Welburn's departure, saying, “GM Design is among the most respected and sought-after organizations in the industry because of Ed’s leadership. He nurtured a creative, inclusive and customer-focused culture among our designers that has strengthened our global brands."
If you are able to be in the Cambridge Mass. area this May 26th you can attend the New England Motor Press - MIT annual conference and meet Ed Welburn. This year's topic is "The Intersection of Technology and Design." Mr. Welburn will be among the panelists. Other attendees will include:
