Left LED turn signal only works when headlights are on

2016 Sierra SLT,  Left front LED turn signal only works when the headlights are on or the fog lights are on.   If it is daylight and I don't turn on the fog lights I get a turn signal malfuntion alert on my screen.  Truck has 102K on it so no warranties left.  Any Ideas on what needs to be looked at?   I don't want to replace the whole headlight assembly and then have the same problem.

If it is LED related, no replacing that part, whole light assembly is the only way to fix it. I take it the other side works just fine?
