i have purchased a 2006 6.0 engine and want to put in my 2000 gmc sierra will the ecm work on the engine

You can put a 6.0 engine into a 2000 truck, people do that all the time.

 

If your 2000 truck was a 4.8 or a 5.3 then you still need to have someone tune the computer for the 6.0 engine swap. The factory computer can be tuned to have a 6.0 calibration put into it. It would have to be done by someone with a tuner that knows what they are doing or buy a performance shop that does these sort of things.
