I added Wireless Android Auto to my truck

Recommended Posts

First, you buy this:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/aawireless#/

Install the setup app from the Play store on your phone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.aawireless&hl=en_US&gl=US

I added Velcro to the back of it so it would stay in place.  Plug in the USB and setup via the app.  I also like the feature where it will start directly to Android Auto without having to hit the button for it.  Connection takes a little longer than wired, but doesn't feel any longer than the Android Auto Wireless connection on the Kenwood unit in my Vette.

I'm so glad this is now available - having to plug in a wire every time I get in my truck sucked and I got way to used to it in my car.

Edit: Before someone asks...yes, your truck needs to have wired Android Auto in it for this to work.

Tip for anyone doing this upgrade (and why wouldn't you, it's pretty cheap and a great upgrade): in the settings app, set it to Passthrough.  I was having some inconsistent connection issues and this resolved it.  It is also connecting faster now - as fast or faster than when I was plugging it in directly.

Finally got mine in. Question for you, do you experience where it won't boot up sometimes? I have tried both USB ports in my center console, but it's inconsistent. If I unplug and plug right back in it works fine.

I don't think it's the AAWireless unit because once I plug it back in it gets power, but I also don't see how it's the truck's USB ports since I never have issues with charging other devices with either port.

I do like this idea but my only drawback is that I always plug my phone in to the usb when driving to keep it charged. And if I'm going to plug in for charging, I already have access to Android Auto on the screen. Adding this would be redundant for me. Not knocking it, just wouldn't be worth the cost for me.

Understandable. My phone battery is good so I have no reason to charge it. I never really cared for Android Auto mainly because I never plugged my phone in, but it's nice having it automatically come on.

For future inquirers, my issue was fixed by updating to firmware 1.7.1.
