GM Facing Class Action Lawsuit Over Lifters

Can you explain what & how this "coating" would do or not do, relative to the issue of the original post. I just need to be educated on it.

The LT1's main rod bearings/connecting rod bearings are polymer coated for increased fatigue strength and durability over the Gen IV aluminum bimetal bearings.

Reduced friction, reduced heat, increased strength, smooth, stronger power delivery.

I just can't figure out why they would advertise this in the lt1 but not the l86. If they do have the same internals..

I was wondering when this would finally happen. The lifters on our '21 Silverado failed at 585 miles and they only replaced them in two cylinders, so I personally am really hoping this is will be a recall for a total replacement with upgraded parts.

It's only a matter of time and it will happen again.  My 2021 Silverado happened at 2990 miles and 12,000 miles.   Their policy was to fix the 4 on the side it broke on, so you got screwed there.  Now their policy is under 6k or 8k miles like us, you fix all 8.   So we both got screwed.   Now im reading in the lawsuit that they replaced the lifters with equally defected parts (i'm hoping thats on the older models and older fixes, and their lifter part from March 2021 is a functional working product) otherwise we all got screwed 3x over.  To make matters worst, GM customer care is better known as GM i dont give a F about the customer, who won't reimburse jack for your inconveniences or finding you a substitute vehicle while they backorder your parts

Anyone ever wonder why the lifters in a 4.3 Ecotec3 are problem free?

They are the same lifters used in the failed motors.

🤔

It's happening to 4.3s, my 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.3 is suffering this right now. I'm trying to get my name on the recall list.

Congratulations! You're the first I've heard to have this issue with a 4.3.

Long and short of it:

"(...)GM class action lawsuit alleges the lifters malfunction and prematurely fail because of multiple reasons.

The lifters (including the locking pin) allegedly do not conform to design specifications, are installed in an incorrect position in the lifter guide and/or are made of sub-standard materials.

GM also allegedly didn't consider the expansion and contraction rates of the lifters and the engine block, and the bores in which the lifters are inserted have widths that allegedly do not allow for the necessary clearance of the lifter to move freely, which damages the lifters.

A GM lifter recall should also allegedly be ordered because the automaker allegedly 'failed to account for the amount of increased pressure to which the AFM lifters are exposed by the pressurized oil used to operate the lifters, causing them to fail prematurely.'

The plaintiffs further claim more valve train maintenance is needed, more than is advised in GM's maintenance guides. This allegedly includes, 'more frequent oil changes, engine flushing and cleaning and/or replacing the valve lifter oil manifold and its filter at regular intervals.'

According to the class action lawsuit, GM allegedly replaces the defective parts with equally defective parts that continue to fail and cause a ticking noise from the engine."

Personally I am indifferent, I have not had lifter issues myself. I'll also probably be done with a DOD delete before anything comes of this.

Here we go again, sending the bottom feeder's kids through school, paying for their European vacations, making our cars thousands of dollars more expensive and waiting for your $3.52 settlement check.

If y'all didn't vote for the effeminate, Washington wouldn't be messing with the automakers and their would be no cylinder de-activation.

Mary Barra takes great offense to that.

Don't like her neither, she's more into politics than cars.

She was put in that position back before we understood what ESG scores were let alone that they even existed in the first place.  Now I know why.

She’s at home enjoying a bud light wondering how to get us to go electric faster. Contemplating what kind of job China going to give her as a reward for all the business she sent their way. After talking to Joe I’m sure she knows. Meanwhile the people over at Kia-Hyundai headquarters are wondering. How stupid can those people running the big three be?

All of the "fortune 500" companies are fully invested in it.

Some are sticking their toe in. Genesis and Hyundai-Kia are making companion models along with gas models. Toyota is perfecting hybrids. The general public are resisting, it’s a hassle.

Oh, ******, are we really gonna turn this forum into a political tit-for-tat?
If so, I'm just gonna see the door on my way out and softly close it behind me.
