2014 Silverado K1500, 145k miles. Transmission making loud screaming noise 30 to 40 mph. Shifting becomes erratic.

I'm new to this web site.  Hoping to save some diagnostics time and expense.  Initially had multiple comm codes and one for transfer case over temperature.  Driving with tow/haul off helps noise.  I suspect it's due for rebuild, but wisdom from the pro(s), saves time and money.  Thanks in advance...
