3.0 Duramax with max towing package impact on fuel economy

Looking at buying a Silverado or Sierra with the 3.0 Duramax. I noticed they are offering a max tow package with the 3.73 gears. Don't really need the extra towing capacity with the trailer I'd be pulling, but the little bump in payload would be handy when towing. BTW, I will not be choosing an offroad trim package and the truck will remain stock with me.

Is there a big difference in real world fuel economy?

I don't have an answer for you but am curious as well. I'm looking to replace my '15 Sierra 1500 6.2 max tow with a 3.0 diesel max tow. I like the gearing and added payload but am bummed that you no longer can get a 2 speed transfer case with the max tow. It only comes with off-road variants. I wish they'd come out with an overlanding combo which would be max tow and off-road parts combined hopefully including a selectable rear locker.
