It's just a terminal pin, basically you take your existing X1 connector out, pop off the side locker for the pins (be careful not to break it, its fragile), orient the new pin with the smallest part of it facing up (if connector is facing up also), push it in until you hear a very faint click or you cant pull it out with low force, reinsert the side locker and plug it back in.

 

The connector below isn't the one in the car but it gives you the idea.

The pin 1 does it output 12v?

When you remove yours can you get pics and give details how you went about removing the lock, I've not removed one before so any tips or know how  on the actual one on the vehicle will be most appreciated.

Update: With my door sills also installed and ON, the total current I could pull before a trip occurred was 2.48A.

Safe bet is the tripping point could be anywhere near 2.5A on the pin with tolerances on top of it so I wouldn't draw more than 2A if you use this pin.

Might want to consider a relay if driving any large amount of LEDs or load.

I want to put under glow lights later on when you open the door so you can see where you step (got those GMC puddle lights that only look cool but don't work to watch where you are going) so I will be installing a relay at some point.

 

I asked Molex about the terminal and they don't want people buying them for personal use as I figured, bummer.

Thanks for the update! Yes, I do plan on using a relay to stay away from over loading the circuit. That's pretty much anytime when tapping into OEM wiring.

Im trying to install the same illuminated door sills on my 2022 Refresh Denali as well and this thread is definitely helpful! I do have one question though on how the wire harness that comes with the door sills gets its power.
 

There is a grey wire on the harness that has some sort of connector. If I’m understanding your thread correctly, I literally just pull the black X1 connector from the BCM, open it up and push the connector from the wiring harness into the “1” slot? No t tapping or anything like that with this harness? Thank you for your help!

I need the answer to this also. I’m surprised someone with the factory installed sills couldn’t take a picture of the harness to know where it is plugged into.

I have tried for an hour to get the wire from the sill into the #1 port on the black X1 and it goes in but you cannot put the plastic retainer on it. I have flipped it over multiple time to try different angels. Not sure why this picture shows a different port than number 1. Any suggestions on how to get it pushed in far enough to get in the white retainer clip?

I haven't started my install of these yet, but when you push the gray wire terminal into the X1 #1 port, are you getting the "click" sound when the terminal locks in to the x1 connector? This is what I would think would happen

I have a 2022 HD2500,  production date 9/21,  after reviewing this thread and realizing nothing pertains to a 2500HD , and the wire leads are not needed for a 2500HD, I installed the footwell lights to circuit 157 ,  the dome lamp circuit in the BCM.

 

The connector is in the BCM in the first slot closest to the OBD11 plug on the drivers kickpanel under the dash, the only thing you might  need to remove to gain access is the drivers underdash cover, if your vehicle is equipped with one,  the connector is  translucent white or opaque in color. There is already a grey wire in slot 23 of the connector.  This was my cure for the connection without cutting the factory harness,  I took a small paper clip, cut a 3/4 inch straight piece off it , soldered a small gauge wire to one end ,  then I pushed the metal end of the clip into the backside (wire side ) of slot 23 on connecter X1,  I saw how far it went into the connector, then removed it and put shrink sleeve over the solder joint and the remaining exposed part of the metal end .  I reinserted the solid wire end into slot 23 from the backside and pushed the connector back into the BCM , then I pushed slightly firmer on the solid wire/soldered wire until I felt slight resistance as it seated in the connector slot 23,  and then tie wrapped the wire to the harness covered in cloth,  then I soldered the positive leads of the footwell lights  to loose end of the pigtail I inserted into slot 23.  I now have footwell lights on the driver and passenger side footwell. 

 

Section 7 - page 322-323 of the upfitter link shows the proper cavity for slot 23, pay attention to the divider slot on the bottom row of the connector so you are connecting into slot 23, the gray wire, circuit 157.

one per side ,  I undersize drilled the holes just to the left of the obd11 connector on the plastice flange of the dashboard , then pressed the light into the undersize hole and it grips it tight.  On the passenger side I drilled the hole in about 1.5 inches over from the fuse cover on the same flange area as I did the drivers side.  With the holes towards the outside of the dash, close to the door jamb, the footwell light illuminates the side step area for getting in and out of the vehicle.

 

if you take a 14 gauge wire you can feed it between the firewall insulation and airbox to the right side of the gas pedal, then tape a smaller guage wire onto that wire and pull it thru to get a wire from the left foot well to the right footwell. 

 

For grounding, I did pull off the rocker trim and kickpanel trim and there is a 6mm stud and 10mm nut that have grounds on them already, I connected the ground for each light to the stud on each side under the kickpanel trim. No idea why the pics have yellow halos around the footwell lights ,  they match the dome light color in real life .
