Spark Plug Protector

Hey guys. So I'm doing my spark plug wires and I had a CARNIVAL trying to put the new wires on. I pushed and pushed and it wouldnn't go on. This spark plug protector over the ceramic (pictured) was the culprit. I took it off and they slid right on. Is it fine if I just leave it off? For all 8 cylinders.

I guess I've never seen plug wires with a thing like that.

 

I always use AC Delco wires or Napa wires when doing these trucks.

Could they be some kind of shipping insert?

I got some Duralast wires.

I suppose they could certainly be some kind of shipping insert, yeah. I also have never ever seen this kind setup before either, all spark plugs I've ever pulled have always had just the ignition wire to cover it.
