Windshield Wipers SPRAY fluid, but no motion of wipers on ANY speed.

Recommended Posts

Hello GM Truck Forums,

I recently purchased a 2006 GMC Canyon SLE 3.5L 5-Cycl. 4WD, 141,500kms.

-The windshield wipers will spray fluid.

-I can hear "something" activating when I select the speeds on the steering column switch for wiper control.

-There is no motion from the wipers at any speed.

-They will move freely, by HAND, when I have a speed selected on the column switch.

I don't have a multimeter for testing.

What can I do to troubleshoot or narrow down what the problem is?

Do you have a test light at least?  I'd check the wiper fuse for power, and if you can unplug the wiper motor check for power at that connector as well.

It typically will come down to a couple of causes.  The motor is junk, a fuse is blown, the switch in the truck is bad, or the fuse box has internal corrosion issues on the printed circuit board inside it.

Being you can turn them on and hear something clicking, it "sounds" to me that the switch is probably okay, as is the circuits in the fuse block.  That likely leaves a bad wiper motor.
