I have noticed that there are two (2) designations for the heavy-duty six speed GM transmission used in Silverado and Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD gas engine pickup trucks:  6L90 and 6L90E.  What are the differences if any?  And, where is each model used?

GM used to use "E" at the end to identify "Electronic" control.  Started back in early 1990s with the 4 speed transmissions.  For example, a 4L60 was purely hydraulic control and typically had some vacuum control as well as vacuum or cable kickdown.  A 4L60E got rid of the mechanical shift controlling in favor of electronic controls that can be monitored as well as data and DTCs.

All they did was drop the "E" I wanna say within the last 5-7 years? as they are all electronic controlled.

No difference in the transmission.
